okay - every summer SHU has a program that does experiments with Fruit Flies, and even though it is common knowledge that they are supposed to Euthanise them, they don't always do so but instead let millions of them free.
Who handles this? My apartment - and neighbors are just filled!

Does South Orange have a Health Dept. like Maplewood? If this were in Mplwd, I'd give Richard Roe a call and see if he had any suggestion. Does he have a counterpart in SO?

I noticed a bunch at a friends house in Montclair on Thursday. I wonder if it's just that time of year?

We here at PETA are totally opposed to killing fruit flies. We are also opposed to using them in scientific experiments.

How would you feel if you were a fruit fly and someone wanted to euthanise you? Sensitivity to the rights of all living creatures is a sign of a civilized person.

Fruit flies occur naturally. I would be surprised if SHU is breeding enough of them to make a difference in the native populations.

SHUfly, don't bother me!
SHUfly don't bother me!
SHUfly, don't bother me,
for I belong to somebody!

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Just to add to Tjohn's point - fruit flies only live for a few days, anyway. If you've picked up any fresh veggies lately, that might be a more likely source.

Cathy, I'm disappointed in you. This is a serious message board, so no more of your frivolity. :-)

Oh, yeah, and Bobk - How would you feel about sending the fruit flies to the quarry in S.O., and dynamiting them there?

Uhm, Noahero, I know you don't know about these things, but fruit flies have sex and reproduce.

Actually, I was referring to the fact that fruit flies kinda "pass on" quickly, so the idea that someone would do a "fly and be free" out the window would be unlikely.

But if your mind wasn't in the gutter all the time ...
