has anyone else had this happen to them? my wife set up verizon service for us when we moved to maplewood. we wanted to change something, and they refused to do it for us, saying we had put a passcode on the account and must recall it. well, my wife assures me we did no such thing, and after about 30 minutes of arguing with them about it they told us the first letter of the passcode, and we were together certain, again, we did no such thing. anyway, they refuse to (lower our bill) change our service until we remember it. |

"they refuse to (lower our bill) change our service until we remember it." So change your provider! I get good and reasonable service from AT&T... ___________________________________________________________________ Waiting for an all-day Jitney, less traffic and more parking all around our community…

Sadly changing providers before the "contract" expires can carry a hefty penalty. |

I think Hello is referring to Verizon home (landline) service, which -- unlike cellular service -- doesn't involve contracts. And from what I understand, phone accounts are "password protected" these days to keep unauthorized people from your switching long distance carrier without your permission, a practice called "slamming" that was happening with alarming frequency in the last few years. It's supposed to be for the customer's benefit, not that that's much of a comfort given your current quandary, Hello . . . |

I have been trying to get a second EZ Pass, but they can't change my account until I supply the PIN I selected 4 years ago and then forgot. In fact, they still send bills to my old address, and won't update my account unless I remember the PIN. They said I can change my account in writing, since then they would have my signature as "proof". So I sent them a written request that never got any response. I was so irritated when I spoke to them on the phone that I said I was going to cancel, but of course, I couldn't... |

hello, try calling back and asking for a supervisor. Usually if you keep going up in the ranks, they will help you out! |

Better yet, remember your password. That's of course if you ever gave it to them in the first place. Sorry, a bit testy, been a rough day! |

I know its too late now but for the next time: Select an unlikely place that you will remember (this part is important). Write down all you PIN numbers, passcodes, etc. on a sheet of paper and place the sheet of paper in the place you have selected. Do NOT make these entires in code (suppose you forget the code you used)? You also need to remember to update the sheet whenever these PIN numbers, passcodes, etc. change. Having a back-up copy on a floppy disk wouldn't hurt either provided you can remember which disk you placed the file on and where you filed the disk. |

themp, cancel the credit card that is paying your EZ pass. Or rather, change the credit card number. It's a pain, but I have found this to be a useful exercise, to keep track of who has my information. Tom Reingold

I keep a coded list of PINs and passcodes, but only my husband and I can decipher it. For example, if the list says the passcode is dog-year, it is my childhood pet's name, followed by the year my parents got married. Few people looking at it would understand the references. |

I would xerox your latest phone bill, and then send it in with a letter requesting contact with customer service regarding the problem. Refer to the full phone account number (phone # plus 3 digits at the end), and remind them that you choose to do business with them, you appreciate their efforts to keep your account secure, but you are the legitimate account owner and wish to make changes to it. |
