I cannot tell you whether they will be at 100% but I am sure that at least there will be beer. I am out campaigning this afternoon and have an appearance tonite but will try to get there before closing time ....... Ed May |

This rush to the pub reminds me of the old joke about the two bulls ... Old bull and a young bull on top a hill looking down at all the cows below. Young bull says, "I'm gonna run down there and have my way with one of those cows ..." The old bull calmly replied, "I'm gonna walk and have me way with all of them cows ..." Remember those immortal words from Animal House (Kevin Bacon): "Remain calm. All is well ..." |

As the youngster and I head to the video store, we pass a curious rabble milling about in the afternoon sun on our fine main drag. Inside, while we debate the merits of 'Madeline at the Toy Store' against 'Elmo visits the Firehouse' a young gentleman enters and reports to the clerk on duty "jeeze, there's a ton of old people lined up out there just waiting to get drunk. It's kinda sad."

So what was it like? I am thinking of going there next week with a friend. We've waited so long for this place to open! Is there food on the menu? Decent burgers? How were the drinks? Good wait staff? What was the "scene" like? Thirtysomething tipplers (my category) or college-kid kooks? Dressed up or dressed down? |

Drove by and it was too packed to even walk in. Where were all these people when the Public House was open on Springfield Ave? Looks like I'll have to wait it out until the novelty wears off or just stay in Cryan's. "How was the wait staff?" "Dressed up or down?" Jeez. |

Early today I noticed someone cleaning the windows of the pub, so I figured today's the day. Sure enough, I stopped by at about 9pm and the place was packed. There was a line. Not liking lines, I headed to Cent'anni's, where the owners know me by name and they always greet me with a smile, great service, superb food, and, after the pros finish, a piano to have fun playing for a few minutes. So I enjoyed a nice single malt, hung out and enjoyed the tinkerings of Steve and Dave, the regular pianists. They even played some rare requests, which was appreciated. Afterward, I ventured back to the pub, where I met a number of familiar faces. It was difficult to get a Guinness, but once I did, I was set for a very enjoyable night. I bet the pub brings many new people to the village scene. Good luck to it! Gong xi fa cai, as they say in China. |

This pub is the best thing in town since NetNomads, Maplewood Online, and Les Saisons. Kind of like all three rolled in one. Great to see some many familiar faces and screen names in one place .... Ed May |

The pub was great - a very nice addition to town! Even ran into a bunch of folks who were having trouble logging in to the message board. I was unable to track down a few of you via email and/or name on the backend admin area. Please send an email to webmaster@maplewoodonline.com with your particulars and I'll try to get you on board. |

Walked by last night around 9 and heard from some of the folks waiting to get in that the pub had run out of food?! Any truth to that? |

Place was great! And yes, food service a bit chaotic. But that was to be expected on Opening Night. We sampled the fish and chips - great, non-greasy, and the Sheppards's Pie - a bit less than authentic but good just the same. The salads, I was told by some folks at an adjoining table, were outstanding. Of course, the Guinness was excellent. I suspect that St. James Gate will evolve into pleasant addition to our downtown community and wish them every success. Hmmm.... I propose the Town make this another stop on the Jitney line(s) and add a few late runs to the schedule. (Due to lack of parking, of course.) Paul |
