We found a dead squirrel today in our flower bed in our backyard (on Elmwood). There's no visible sign of how it died. Could it have gotten the West Nile Virus? What do you think???

Sounds more like East Amazon. Cook it up with some shallots and butter. If it needs salt, it's definitely not West Nile. |

My diagnosis is either the Rockin' Pneumonia or the Boogie Woogie Flu. |

Last year I found a dead goose near our house (in SO) and I wondered the same thing. I called animal control and they removed it quickly. A squirrel, though, I'm not sure what they'd do. |

thank you Reflective. You are obviously a well-informed person who is aware that at major US medical schools, Boogology is known to be the most stylish of specialties. Gotta run -- very busy day today for Boogologists in NJ. I have a full waiting room -- about a dozen victims of Springsteen Exhaustion, a couple lingering cases of Bon Jovitis, and one really Bad Case of Loving You. |

Maplewoody: It could have died of old age, too. Haven't heard of any cases of squirrels contracting West Nile Virus but you never know. To ease your mind, I would contact the town's Health Officer or consult with one of the local veterinarians for an informed opinion. |

Maplewoody, Lest you think that I cannot be of help outside my specialty, I'd like to echo Joan's advice. My initial diagnosis may have been hasty. I did some research and turned up cases of West Nile in such vertebrates as squirrels and chipmunks. |

Dr. Boogie, Can you play the "Pinetop Boogie?" He's 90 years old this year. And he's a big fan of Maplewood. He went for a walk one day and I found him four hours later feeding the ducks at the pond. http://www.blindpigrecords.com/artists/Perkins,+Pinetop.html There's nothing like spending your whole life in a BAR! |
