A new restaurant has opened in South Orange on First street called Caribbean Cuisine and it is delicious! We have been twice in the last week and can't get enough. Portions are great, prices excellent and so clean inside! The grand opening is this Saturday with a buy one - get one 1/2 off special, steel drum band etc. YUMMY!!!!!

Just ate there for the first time last night. The food rocks! The vegetable curry was the best I've ever had. Try it with the Roti. And the Alhoo Pie was delish. Very clean place too. The price was very reasonable for the portion that you get. Lunch today was equally as good. Try it.

Is it a take out joint, or a fancy sit down restaurant, or something in between?

Take out or sit down. Not fancy. Kid friendly.

In between. They do a lot of take-out, but the interior in very nice. Simple, but with a fair amount of tables, all set-up with silverware, glasses and tablecloths. They are very nice owners and I can't go on enought about the food. It is soooo good!

just ate at this restaurant. Wonderful well seasoned (not hot) food. We had aloo pies (a potato filled pies) a chicken filled roti (like a tortilla wrap) and a goat curry with wonderful sides. The tab was $20.00 for two and we had leftovers.

If you like Caribbean Cuisine, you can also try Island Spice, 1901 Springfield Avenue Maplewood.

Ask for Winston... good food and good people.

It's on First Street (I think that's the name of the street, if you're on Valley going towards Orange, you make the right at the corner with the Midas Muffler place and it's at the top of that little street right before Academy). "Pagliacci's" was there for a while and then "Sinclair's" and then the restaurant was empty for a few years. It looks very nice, but I haven't gotten inside yet. Hope to try it soon.

Island Spice, GREAT food as well, not so great atmosphere. Could use a little sprucing up. Maybe with the new competition.....

There are only a couple of tables at Island Spice. I think they mostly function as take out. Good food though

Ate at Island Spice for lunch the other day. The chicken soup was very tasty and the beef stew very tender. I will be back.

Met Winston at SJG the other day and I could tell that his new restaurtant would be excellent, but I have yet to visit it.

Jason and John, enjoyed meeting you the other day at the Broadview BBQ.

We tried Carribbean Cuisine a few nights ago. The staff is very nice and the menu is great! However, the jerk chicken and rice-and-peas is better at J & J, on Valley St., slightly east and across the street from Pathmark. I'm sure we'll be going back to CC to try the roti!

Tried the Aloo pies at Carribean Cuisine a s snack on the way home from the train last night. Order them spicy. Reminiscent but far better than the best vegetable samosas I have ever had.

Had our first dinner here last week. The food was excellent and the staff is very friendly. Try any of the curries, the spinach or the pumpkin sides, and the special ice cream. A great place for takeout as well.
