Any recommendations for a reasonable($) and reliable Tree removal service? I have 2 mid-sized trees next to my house that I want to take down. |

I just posted the same info on another thread, but what the hey: Ed Such, Evergreen Landscape & Tree Service, 973 893 0009. He did a good job for us at much lower cost than anyone else who gave us an estimate.

You HAVE to call Tree King. I had almost every tree place in the surrounding areas give us a quote for a the removal of a giant tree in our backyard. Tree King beat their prices by at least half or more, I was very skeptical at first. They not only did a fantastic job, they did all of the surrounding root removal and the guy didn't even use a ladder truck (Maplewood tree wanted to charge over 3k because of the 'need' for trucks and said they were going to have to access our neighbors driveway). The guy was like spiderman, swinging from the branches with a harness on while men below pulled the branches down and away with ropes. We paid 900. Our neighbors were amazed by how quickly it was done. Their number is 973-448-9595. |

I would suggest avoiding Tree King. I just had a horrible experience with them. When I phoned them they would not agree to meet with me to discuss what should be done but instead they wanted to just stop by and leave the estimate in my mailbox. I tried to explain to them what I wanted so I could get an accurate estimate and they did indeed leave an estimate and it was lower than the other estimate (only 1 so far). Unfortunately, I had doubts that Tree King really knew what I wanted. I was looking to have the tree limbs removed at a specific point where the tree froms a "Y" shape. I called Tree King and explained I would a representative to come out and she flat out refused to send one. She said they would not meet with me in person and they are too busy (I'm assuming they wouldn't be too busy to take my payment). I explained again why I was concerned but she would not oblige me. She suggested that I send a fax with my question. I again explained that I had instructions and not a question making it necessary to refer to the actual tree to avoid any confussion that might arise after trying to decipher my instructions without a visual( a rather large tree with many branches). Finally, I asked her if losing business because of bad customer relations and service was alright with them and she again said they aren't meeting with anyone in person. If they are going to do the job in person what is the big deal? I would have even been satisfied with showing them what I wanted the day of the removal so they wouldn't have to make an extra trip. Removing a tree is expensive and dangerous (considering a two huge limbs are hanging over my garage/driveway and bedroom) and if they are going to expect payment they should expect to do the job as you would like it. I would also like to be confident with the people that will be extracting the tree so that I am sure my property will not be damaged and I do not think it was too much to ask concidering what a large investment a home is. I will not work with Tree King and will not recommend them. I plan on contacting someone at Tree King and letting them know the situation could have been handled much better and that I was unhappy with how I was treated. |

I recently found out that Maplewood Trees rents certain trucks -- does not own them -- and that's why they are so expensive. |

try giving Friendly Tree Service in West Orange a call - they will give a free estimate, and I found their prices to be same as most mid-range companies. Family owned and might have more of the personal touch you are looking for.} John Lang, the son, is very thorough and will definitely hear you out and consult with you face to face. |
