I couldn't let this day go by without sharing my sadness with any other Zevon fans out there. I thought playing his music today would make me feel better, but it just makes me cry . He was a fine musician, an incredible wit and his IQ was probably off the charts. I wish more people were aware of what a great talent he was. He became, in recent months, a powerful example of courage who never seemed to entirely lose his wonderfully twisted sense of humor. Since learning his cancer was terminal, he spent his time the way I would like to when my time is at hand.He stayed close to his family and friends and fought to keep writing and making music in spite of being in tremendous pain. I read a post on a web site earlier today that described Warren's type of cancer (Mesothelioma) as one of the most painful of all cancers. I keep wishing I hadn't read that. He seemed to have accepted his impending death (a topic with which he was quite familiar) but I can't bear knowing that he suffered. Thank you for all the music, Warren. |

What a lovely tribute. I'm really not all that familiar with Warren Zevon's music, other than some of his most popular songs, but discovered on the day he died that I have a CD of his I once bought and never even opened. On your recommendation, I'm going to listen to it today and hope I feel the same way as you. Thanks for writing. |
