Looking for Chinese or Asian grocery stores/supermarkets within 10 miles (or a 30 min drive) of Maplewood/South Orange. I'm already familiar with Hong Kong Market (Oak Tree Road in S Plainfield); Kam Man Foods on Route 10 by Imagine That; and the two markets on Route 22 westbound in Plainfield/Green Brook (Captain Fresh, and something else).

Looking for well-stocked store closer than those listed. Thanks!

SPW,
There is a big Asian grocery store on Rt.10 in the mini mall that has the Marty's Shoe store, just past the Home Depot.

Hi Spw784,

They certainly aren't as well-stocked as the stores you mentioned, but I sometimes find the Asian foods I'm looking for at the produce store in Millburn mall and in Whole Foods.

Also, the Indian and Filipino markets on Oak Tree Road in Edison sell many "chinese" ingredients and staples. When traffic is light, it's only about a 30 minute drive -- plus those some of those stores stay open very late. I sometimes eat dinner at Swagath Gourmet and then do a little shopping at the huge Asian supermarket in the mall.

I agree - the produce store in the mini-mall with Drug Fair does have a fair number of the ingredients we need for our Thai/Asian extravaganzas. The little Kings in Maplewood has the best mint and cilantro. Whole Foods has so-so Asian produce but lots of nori, noodles etc. We just visited the Wegman's super store just past Somerville - unbeliveable Asian food selection! We now plan our travel to "swing by" and stock up on fresh galanga, tamarind pods, pea shoots all sorts of exotica.

Nursie: I believe that is the Kam Man I mentioned. Same shopping center as Penang, and RxPlace. But thanks!

International Food Market is on Washington Blvd. in Jersey City near the Newport Mall. You name it, they've got it. It's about a 30 minute drive if you take the Turnpike to exit 14C (Hoboken). Well worth the trip. The produce is good too.

Can't beat Captain Fresh for great prices on seafood! Definitely worth the drive!
