Does anyone know of a book club or reading group in Maplewood or the area? I'd like to join one, ideally one that meets once a week or so. Help! This mommy desperately needs to get out of the house more. Thanks in advance.

Wilbur - check the calendar on Maplewood Online homepage - I remember seeing listings for book club events. I think they have a daytime and evening one.

The South Orange Library has a book discussion group that meets the 2nd Monday of the Month at 7:30pm at the library. We have a wonderful group of readers that are both engaging and a lot of fun. This month's reads are a choice of three...Girl With a Pearl Earring, Music Lesson or Girl in Hyancinth Blue. Please contact the Library for more info. 762-0230. We'd love to have you join us.

I think there is one through the Newcomer's Club.

New2SO, I am no longer a "newcomer" - I've lived here three years. Do you think I could still the Newcomer book club if there was space?

My impression from the one Newcomer's Club meeting I went to was that there are lots of people who still participate even though they have been here some time. But perhaps someone who is active in the club could address this better. Anyone?

Newcomers is full of people who have lived here for quite a while -- in fact, some members live here for several years before joining (and join when they have kids). I found that joining the club and getting involved in playgroups and kids' activities was a great way to meet other mothers who are around during the day, and in fact I met my closest friends through the group, though I don't do much with the Club anymore.
