Overtaxd, Your logic is pretty fuzzy. Because eastsiders knew what their taxes were when they bought their houses, they're not entitled to a tax reduction? Rckymtn made a good point: there's no way the TC can put the genie back in the bottle and say, "sorry, the rich folks are upset, so you people whose taxes are going down will just have to wait." Just because there was no one at the meeting last night DEMANDING that revaluation go through immediately doesn't mean that there aren't people budgeting for a potential decrease in their taxes. To say that they don't deserve a decrease because they're used to paying a certain amount doesn't wash. |

And your "we bear an unfair burden" lament doesn't wash with me. |

Thomas: You state above about Mr. DeLuca: "he'll be paying under $3,500. You can't even do that in Union." You are right. You have to pay even more for your house and still pay under $3500. See House for Sale in Union Township. Look, the incorrect assessments by Certified need to be fixed. But that can be pursued without the insinuations which have been flying around here. |

Tracks Glade you asked I have not been in the Deluca house but I know it sold 1994 for 119k is on a 50x100 lot and in good condition when he bought it. The size of the other house is smaller if anything, check it, 80 Lexington, same sized lot. as far as Jerry goes, he is getting a large increase, but have you seen his house? Its under major renovation and is huge compared to my house. also the last 2 homes that sold on Hickory sold for 130-150 over Jerry's new assessment. So don't tell me about poor Jerry. My assessment is slightly less than Jerry's and my house is half the size on a lessor street. I wish I could post a picture of my house and his house with the assessment, you'd be shocked and I'm peved. Reminds me of George & Jeb Lets not be nieve here-is that to strong |

OXFORD, Why is it that you feel the TC doesn't have a clue? Is it Because they didn't do what you and your neighbors wanted them to do? Is it because they took the WHOLE TOWN in to considration this time and not just the west side as the famous Mayor Grassmere did? As far as the comments that the eastsiders knew what they were paying all along...it doesn'f fly!!! They believed they were paying the correct amount based on the value of their property. With regards to Vic doing this for himself and the east side...that doesn't make any sense at all. He is only one man on the committee there are four other members on the committee all of whose taxes are going up. Vic, must have something on them to get them to pay out all that money so he could save $1500.00, come on use your brain!!! Marie, you make it sound like living on the eastside of Maplewood is horrible. What happened to "we're all one town"? Oh, and if the eastside is so horrible than we deserve our tax decrease. You can't have it both ways. Is it horrible or are we one Maplewood? |

We're one Maplewood until they quash the reval. Then they'll go back to blocking school redistricting, trashing the CCR, ignoring realty abuses... |

Black, white, yellow, red, young, old, rich, poor, middlin', pretty, ugly, smart, dumb, polite, rude, we all suffer under an oppressive tax burden - reassessment or no reassessment. Maplewoodians (sic?) of Essex, unite! You have nothing to lose but a large portion of your paychecks. |

No, really. We're ALL overtaxed. If I lived on the "East Side" and paid over $5000 a year in property taxes on a home valued at $120K, I'd feel screwed, too. Proportionally, you've been robbed. If I lived on the "West Side" and was faced with taxes of over $10,000 a year, I'd be screaming until I had an embolism. As it is, I'm faced with taxes of $8000 on a 3BR/1BA home - which is insane - and my taxes didn't go up very much. The fact they went up at all is galling. The people who received tax breaks are still paying too much. And, so are the rest of us who didn't. Instead of carping at one another, we ought to band together and say "enough is enough." Property taxes alone cannot pay for the services we need and expect. Protest the reassessment, but the real protest needs to be directed at Trenton. |

Alceste- I completely agree. And long term with the Trenton idea. But let's stop being co-dependent and control what we can - OUR OWN SPENDING. The TC is bonding out of control! Springfield Avenue is $10 million dollars. How do you think this is going to be paid for? They have a charge card and Trenton isn't picking up that bill. Don't get me wrong, I think it needs to be done but more taxes on top of what just happened? We are all going to spend our tax dollars to improve Springfield Avenue thus improving the value of the east side too. Isn't 10 million enough? |

Alceste, well said. Nil, you are missing the forest for the trees. The families on the west side are seriously burdened with this tax increase and the only realistic hope of relief is bringing up the values on the east side. Investing in springfield avenue is the smart way to spend limited resources. Unless the west side wants to let things get to the point where they are paying the whole tax bill alone. |

East won't get turned around until they do away with Rent Control Act. Taxes won't do it. |

Call Frank Nolan. He's been warning the TC about this for 2 years now. |
