BIG TRAIN did not rock O'Reilley's tonight at 8 PM as promised. They started at 9:30 PM and positively pulsated the place! Only my early deadline for Rolling Stome Magazine (and DC's failure to buy me beer) caused me to depart early. Dix Chrison (not his real name) certainly needs his head handed to him for pulling together this magnificant cacophony of melodic musicalness! Despite repeated requests Mr. Chrison refused to reveal the names of the eight member ensemble. My research yielded the following insite into the Magnificent Seven plus Dix. Stud Iologic on Keyboard, Ny on some sort of trumpet, Samual Ash on Saxofone, T Bone Jones on trombone, Geau Tee on drums, and the Bass brothers on guitar. Dix also played some kind of stringed instrument (distant relative of the ukelele?). The Waitress Protection Program can certainly be proud of these guys. As for the music (that is why we came wasn't it?) BIG TRAIN can't hold a candle to their arch nemesis 3rd Gear. They held a blow torch! These guys sent vibrations through all of southern Maplewood, Millburn, and parts of Metuchen, turning Millburn Avenue, in fact, into "Funky Funky Broadway". Guys riding by on Yamahas felt a kind of kindred kinship with the sound streaming from the speakers. Carvin would be proud. BIG TRAIN's renditon of 634-5789 left me a bit short however ~ what was that area code? Can you hear me now? The jokes about Mr. Ed notwithstanding, I am sure that their tribute to Johnny Cash touched many a heart. Their tribute to John Ritter was somewhat tacky and tasteless however, kind of like his TV shows. In case you missed the live similcast on Channels 28 and 35, and WSOU Radio, it will be replayed agained tomorrow morning at 6 AM. So, Mr. Dix (in your vintage Drew Carey haircut), thanks for introducing me (twice) to all your groupees (as "Ed May from Rolling Stone Magazine"). You willing hearing from my lawyer soon.

I still liked 3rd Gear's Friday Night Performance at NetNomads and would love to hear 3rd Gear play again real soon, especially before November 4th.

Marilyn,

Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed us...we had a great time as well. I could tell Ed was having a FABULOUS time, although his drumming on the table in front of me was a bit distracting

Now that you are an official Gear Head, we'll put you on the mailing list!

Good things happen for those who wait... Ed you left early!

I have to disagree with you on this one pal! THE BIG TRAIN ROCKS!

I loved it!!! These guys are so full of energy I had to call an electrician to ground me to my stool… Seriously, it’s always great to see a band that works well together. These guys are fun, they’re entertaining, and they’re good. I gave them TWO THUMBS UP!! I’ll be back…

Ed May: Big Train never promised to start at 8:00 PM. Shoot, we don't even roll out of bed until seven o'clock ... We're sorry for any confusion, but are glad you enjoyed the show. Thanks to you and the lovely Marilyn for coming out on a lousy night. My bad for not buying you a beer and I owe you one ...

Art C: Thanks for the very kind words. Yeah, we have a lot of fun ...

Thanks to our pals from Backspin for coming by last night and thanks to the Spinettes for a night that I will never forget!

Thanks to all of the "Usual Suspects" for coming out last night. It was great to see a lot of new faces too. The "House of Walter" was rocking! We love playing the place and it's still the Big Train's favorite bar in town. We're pleased to report that O'Reilly's said they'd like to have the band back on a monthly basis, so y'all can get a regular dose of Big Train. In fact (Just between us!), there was talk about Big Train playing there on Halloween. Details to follow. The next stop for the band is a way cool fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the hills of Bernardsville, NJ on Friday night. Check-out the details at www.springtreefarm.com ...

Please be sure to check out the mp3 section on the web site!

People get ready ...
