Phew! AC on the blink at the Pub tonight, it was still packed but very, very schwetty. Got our first round gratis and stayed for a second and some fish and chips. Cenn'tanni's and O"Reilly's could learn a thing or two from the pub.

I must say as my son and I walked through Maplewood last evening at around 5:20 I saw more than a dozen of you folk lined up in front of The Gate (which by the way it should be affectionately called) waiting to get in. I wonder aloud that, though I didnt know any of them by sight, how many would I have recognized by handle? By 5:30 the number had doubled. who was there?

I think I saw Art... but then I always seem to think I see Art.. especially when I am parking the car

My only complaint is that I haven't been able to get in yet! I tried three times but was unwilling to wait an hour. I would have waited the 45 minutes last evening with no problem except for the bloody lack of AC. (Had I known the first round was on the house for those who waited in the sweltering heat, I would have convinced the wife to stay). I shall plan on going directly after work for a drink sometime -- I have already started calling the place "Moe's." Or perhaps late night is the way to avoid the crowds. Any suggestions? Anyone know what time they close (sounds like some of you have closed up the joint)? Can't wait for my first Guinness and Fish & Chips.

Good morning Duncan,

I'm sorry, but at 5:30 last night I was making my way home in a station wagon I recovered in the city that only looks like yours...

However, by 7PM we were front and center stage at the Dancing Goat to see John Davidson’s Show. ( www.johndavidson.com ) Last week we also saw him by chance in LBI at the Surf Light Theatre. I truly believe he’s one of the best entertainers in America today, and all of us in South Orange are fortunate to have him as one of our own.

This man and his music is a must be see when ever you get a chance. He is an entertainer’s entertainer. His show was really great last night, and the Dancing Goat is as good a venue as you can find anywhere in the city. We’re all blessed!

Afterwards, some of us stopped at the Gate, but forgot to bring our bathing suits. The Pub caught a bad break with their air conditioner, not that that seemed to bother the many beverage connoisseurs all gathered around the bar.

We then all ended the evening at Centanni’s where we found Jamie holding court without his brother, the always interesting and attractive Mem with friends, and a horde of other unidentified Molers enjoying the air conditioning.

It’s not hard to understand why M/SO has become one of the best places to live in America!

BTW Pierce, the only suggestion I can offer is to just keep trying, it’s well worth the wait!

Wishing everyone a great and safe holiday weekend… Art.

Waiting for an all-day Jitney, or some better way we all can get around to the Pubs...

The MOL-er pub crawl described above, probably explains some of those posts in other threads, at around 2:00 a.m. this morning.

Like Pierce, so far we've found ourselves unable to get in. You folks who've been "queuing up" for opening time, take a break some night and give the rest of us a chance.

I hear some neighbors of the new Pub are planning a lawsuit. It seems their quality of life has drasticly declined since it's opening! I saw someone moving out on Saturday. Anyone who lives around the Pub care to comment?

I don't live there but, um, let's just say a friend who does is looking at another friend's old apt. elsewhere, a neighbor we just met just moved out (perhaps the Sat. one you mentioned), and last night anyone on the second floor could, uh, give you the jukebox line up, song title for song. Last night I heard Sunday, Bloody Sunday, and New Year's Day through the floorboards.

Now, I love U2, enjoyed the pub immensely myself, and am glad there's a delightful place like this in Mapleberry, but Bono himself could pen a nice lyric or two about the trials of those who live above or those whose rooms abut the kitchen. Because I'm not in the thick of it, I have the luxury of offering the polite version here.

I hate to sound like a jerk, but I'm sure the town approved the pub on the basis that it IS a pub, which usually means loud music, etc. I don't see the case for a lawsuit (I am not an attorney, however). Surely the pub owners would say the town gave them the OK. I'll bet the current renters move or stay or whatever, and future renters will know what they're getting into when they choose to rent over a pub. Just like my very first NYC apartment 14 years ago (god that makes me feel old) was directly above an Indian restaurant and I lived with a constant odor of curry and odd spices (and even roaches that found their way up from the restaurant kitchen). I chose that, I didn't like it, I moved out as soon as I could.

Thanks Art! It was great seeing you.

At the pub that night we had burgers that were great even without AC, and the wings were good as well (but they weren't crunchy on the outside like O'Reilly's). Ended up at Centanni's to cool down.
There's nothing like spending your whole life in a BAR!

Had just wanted to say something reflecting the tenants' point of view. Not sure a lawsuit is the thing to do either, but I guess I'm just saying that when you "choose" a building before the establishment is built, it could seem different somehow and be a situation people could understand.

I don't know who was moving out, but I hope they take that &%$^*@ leaking A/C with them. I'm tired of waiting to get in with that thing dripping on us all night!
