We are getting ready to redo our bathroom, and would like to save our old sink. It looks like somebody long ago covered it with something, but it is chipping away. Does anybody have any experience with a contractor who restores old porcelain fixtures? Thanks in advance for your help. |

A past MOL'er alway answered this questions. Since he has left MOL I suggest this. Go to the attic, under home fix-it and search under njjoseph as the sender, and bath tubs as the text word. Play around you will find it. Lots of good advise from a past voice on this site. Mr. Ugly is ringing a bell. Later, George |

Good suggestion. I think the short answer is that you can't restore porcelain, but you can "re-glaze" it which is to say paint it with epoxy paint which has a very hard and shiny surface. This can and does chip and wear over time and may be what was done in the past. How long it lasts depends on who you ask and maybe on how well the job is done. Some people are very happy with the results. Others think it's not worth the hassle. Which side you fall on may depend partly on how much you like your old fixture and/or how much bathroom renovation you are prepared to pay for. |

Retired his logon to help break the MOL habit. Step 11 I think. Still reads. |

you can apply "porcelain paint" to touch up chips on a reglazed tub/sink. one of my tubs was reglazed by prior owner(i could not tell). when we had the tile walls replaced the tub began to chip. the contractor gave me a small bottle of porcelain paint. it seems to hold up. perhaps home depot carries it. oots |

NJJ has been busy digging around his property, building and installing an Olympic sized swimming pool in his back yard for the past two summers. Wait til it's completed. I bet he'll be out at poolside with his laptop! |
