I want 2 full view storm doors, and need someone to install them. I can order anywhere, but want a good fit/installation. Any good comments on where and who you used? Also, could a medium pet door be put on a bottom corner of one?

Maplewoody,

We just installed (2)in Maplewood in conjuction with a project.
They're great doors. In fact, I have one on my home.
As for the pet door. I haven't seen one that can accomodate. You can however alter the screen insert to do so, but not the glass.
As for the install. This is not a 1-2-3 job. Each door will take several hours to install depending upon the size.
If you would like for us to provide a formal quotation feel free to contact us at 973-761-7000
Good luck.

Good timing for this topic! I have double doors on the front, and they are relatively leaky. The existing "storm" doors are barely that.

I was this afternoon at HD -- looked at the Andersen fullview thermal door (twin panes of glass). They're about $270 each, and they quote $119 each for install.

First -- is the *double glass* worth it in a storm door?

Secondly -- is Andersen a good door?

Third -- is $119 each for install an ok price?

I have installed storm doors before -- but not only do I not have the time, I really don't want to cart 2 large glass doors home!

Thanks --

Pete

We looked at Jaeger Lumber (haven't ordered yet) and they emphasized that if we or a contractor make a mistake in measuring then we are stuck with a door we cannot use. However, if we hire Jaeger to install the door then they will measure and any mistakes are their loss.

We used Home Depot for install, though I don't think we went for the Andersen fullview (may have been next brand down). Was very convenient; HD came out and confirmed measurements one day, installed the next. Our house is not one of the fancier Maplewood Houses (brick cape cod from the 40's/50's), but the job done was fast, tidy and thorough. Went to HD mainly because we were new in town and no clue where else to go.

The price Home Depot quoted for each door is a good price. Go nuts!

We took a drive to LOWES out rt 80 in Flanders. Ordered 2 doors, one for the front door is a Pella Ashford full view single panel, and the one on the rear is a two panel door that sides up or down to open 1/2 part that's screened. I liked the Pella brand compared to what HD sells, and what we saw elsewhere. They'll come out and do installation. Friends of our used Lowes for a front door and side panel with fancy cut glass windows, and were quite happy.

BTW, the Lowes is sooooo much nicer in many ways than the HD stores in this area!

I agree! Lowes is the place to be in lieu of Home Cheapo.
I have been in the same Lowes and it kicks HD's butt!

Jaeger Lumber installed our storm door and I wholeheartedly recommend them. They were prompt, courteous and returned free of charge after a minor imperfection. Our door was a custom order, and will buy from them again.

Here's the link: http://www.jaegerlumber.com/doors_page.htm

Good Luck!
