The New Jersey State Department of Education yesterday announced state aid distributions for the school year 2001-2002. Of 22 districts in Essex County, 5 saw no change or a decrease. SO-M is slated to receive the same $5.147 million it received this school year - yet the proposed budget is up again with Maplewood property taxes rising between 5.5% and 7.5% assuming a new apportionment because of the revaluation. Whether it's the lower or higher figure will depend on the Board of School Estimate and passage of the Special Question.

I had some thoughts on the same subject - over in the "Education" sub-topic.

I put them down here: State to SO-M: "No soup for you!"
