I have a nice deck that I really like, but it's in need of some maintenance. It has a few nails that protrude up from the floor in a few places, and it gives occasional splinters. It's also rather gray and weatherbeaten (although that bothers me less than the nails and splinters). I don't know how old it is; it was with the house when I bought it. I really don't want to replace it because it has wonderful mature honeysuckle vines, clematis vines, and other vines attached to it, and I don't know they'd be preserved if I ripped the deck out (not to mention that would presumably cost a fortune). Can anyone recommend someone who can sand it or refinish it or do whatever it needs to last maybe 7-10 more years? Thanks.

What you need is a good power wash and seal job - you can do this yourself or hire it done... I would bet the plants would have to be detached (wouldn't they need pruning back for the winter season anyway?) though, to do a really good and complete job. TO find out more about power washing, ask at Home Depot, or do a Google search to learn more...

Rutgers Painting does this and does it well. Call them for an estimate.

Good luck!
