Seems like all the good restaurants in the area are closed mondays (jocelyn's, basilico, lilac). Any good ones in the area (good italian preferred) to take the wife out for an anniversary dinner?

If Libretti's isn't open Mondays, you might want to try Fiorino in Summit (which is). They have a website here.

Marc - LOL - but it's good pub grub.

NCJ- I don't think Libretti's is open on Mondays.. but, you're right.. great food!

Is the Highlawn Pavillion open on Mondays? Great view and romantic setting for an anniversary dinner.

I had this problem a few years ago when my birthday was on a Monday. We ended up at Amici's on Essex Street in Millburn, and the food was excellent. I'd check, though, to see if they still open on Mondays.

Scalini Fedeli, on Main Street in Chatham, is truly outstanding. It's open Mondays.

second for Scalini, one of the most outstanding and elegant dining experiences in NJ... but be warned, this meal will set you back a couple of c-notes.

Try the China Gourmet on Eagle Rock Avenue about a block west of Prospect in West Orange. The best Chinese food anywhere, spotlessly clean and great service.

Also, if Scalini is out of your budget range (they're one of the most expensive restaurants in NJ), they have a sister restaurant in Madison that's more reasonably priced but still quite nice, excellent food in a romantic setting. Can't remember the name of it off hand (any help, folks?), but my husband and I ate there last year when our anniversary fell on a Monday at it was really quite lovely.

amanda - you're thinking of Il Mondo(e?) Vecchio - as you say, also a WONDERFUL Italian restaurant. Scalini recently got a liquor license, Il Mondo Vecchio is a BYO.

I also enjoy Il Capriccio on Rte 10, which has a liquor license. You really feel like you're in "the family" there.

If you're looking beyond Italian food, Serenade in Chatham (nearly across the street from Scalini) is labelled French but is more like new/fusion, and is also one of NJ's finest restaurants, and has not only a liquor license but swank little bar you can warm up at.

Is Il Tulipano still cooking? Enjoyed it as a highly recommended restaurant many years ago. What's it doing now?

Il Tulipano in Cedar Grove? The last time I checked, it was still there. It still looks great, and it attracts a strong crowd.
