Two questions:

1. I need someone to adjust/repair/replace my automatic garage doors. Can anyone recommend a good company in the area ?

2. Is there a handyman for the general around-the-house-stuff ? I don't have a particular project right now, but I like to be prepared.

Greenetree - look on the Victorian post - someone mistakenly posted the door company there.

That was me. :-\

Alan Dynan is the guy who did our garage door about a month ago. Good work. Co. is in Maplewood: Elite Door Co. 762-4413.

Skillman Doors out of Bloomfield did ours. Pretty reasonable and quick.

Chris, could I ask what "reasonable" was? I have no idea what these things should cost and desperately need to replace both of my garage doors (one is permanently stuck shut and the other has to be propped open - a definite hazard.)
So I'm thinking about automatic doors.

Thanks,

Bacata

I needed to have the spring mechanism that goes on top of the door replaced. With labor it was $300. It sounds as if you need to have the whole door and, probably, the mechanical stuff replaced. Did you consider HOME DEPOT?

Chris: Thanks for the info. You're right that I'm starting from scratch. The current doors are not automatic. I will check out Home Depot, I forget they have contractors so thanks for the reminder.

I second the work of SKILLMAN, they installed an
opener on our heavy wooden 2 car garagedoor.
It works great! You can see their ad in the Maplewood NewsRecord.
