I'm pretty new to the area, so forgive me if I've missed the obvious.

I've spent the last couple of weekends driving to different liquor stores around the area looking for someone who carries a decent selection of Germany imported beer. I'm looking for some of the really good Munich beers like Holfbrau, Hacker-Pschor, Augustiner Braeu, etc.

I can find these beers all over NYC and this last weekend I went to south Jersey to visit friends and found a liquor store there that had a decent selection. But, of course, I want to find a store close to home... which brings me to my question:

Is there no one local that carries cases of these beers? Is there a liquor store around here that can (at least) special order beer?

And if anyone can point me to a liquor store that carries or can order AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER, I will be very greatful.

Any suggestions?

Take a drive to PA, I always find the best there.
On the other hand I Just bought a case of Hacker Pschorr and a case of Spaten Oktoberfest Braü at the liqour store in West Orange, the one back behind the Sears Hardware store, where the big Shoprite is.
Pick up some Stoudt's while you are there, it's good too.

Although it's not a liquor store, Cryan's in SO might have some. I just saw a sign outside of there that said Oktoberfest Oct 1st - Oct 31st. Authentic Bavarian Food and Oktberfest beer

Try Gary's in Madison. Livingston is no longer Gary's store but Madison has great beer and wine selection--I buy most of my wine there.

St. James Gate pub in Maplewood serves Beck's Oktoberfest on tap to hold you over...!

Be well, all.

I just got back from livingston. There is a store called Bottle King on Livingston Ave, it has lots of different beer, and I know they have Hacker Pschorr Octoberfest because I just bought some.

Hey Gang,

Thanks for all of the input. After traveling all over the area and checking out many of your suggested liquor stores, I've found that Shop Rite Liquors in South Orange is the winner. Not because the customer service was that great... or that the in-house selection was that vast, but because they are able to special order beers and have them for you within a couple of days.

Also, for a great selection of all types of imported beer in stock and the ability to special order I highly recommend Shop Rite Liquors in Hackenstown. I know it's a bit of a trek, but Joe the Manager was very nice and able. I was most impressed.

So lastly, for all of you beer lovers out there that wish to try something out of the ordinary, I would suggest heading over to South Orange and placing an order for a case of AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER. It's a smoked beer from a little town in Germany called Bamberg. It's a very smooth beer with a flavor very much like smoked ham. It's a bit on the expensive side... but hey... it's beer.
