I've seen the reductions/eliminations posted online, but not the actual budget itself. In previous towns I've lived in, I got a copy of it in the mail prior to the vote. But I haven't received one here (I guess because we don't get a vote on the budget). I'd like to know the breakdown of how the $67mm is being spent this year. Also, does anyone have the data on class size by grade, or potential class size by grade. I'd like to get a feel for how much the budget will have to increase over the longer term (5 - 7 years), so that I can get a better feel for how much more my taxes are likely to increase. Since I live on the west side, and will be paying a higher share of any increase in the budget going going forward, I'd rather figure out now if I'm not going to be able to make it through my daughters high school years. Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

The state report cards for each school indicate the grade size for each building. Of course, this doesnt account for transfers in and out, or people coming from full day kindergartens (which pushes the first grade totals up every year!) The last year for which these numbers are available is 98-99. I'll try to compile the info from each report card and post it soon. |

Each NJ school district is required to submit data yearly in a uniform format on several topics to the NJ State Department of Education. These include among others: budget and finance, teacher & staff qualifications, instructional data (length of day etc), absence data, reportable acts of violence and criminal activity (drugs), and enrollment as of 15 October. The enrollment data is by grade by school. The SO-M district has traditionally provided this information to the public when submitted to the state no later than December. In addition to current year data the Enrollment Report includes comparative data for the past 10 years and projected enrollment for the next 10 years. When combined with the Class Size Report (actual number of students in each class and school, a fairly complete picture of the space situation within SO-M can be drawn. For whatever reason, this year the district has not yet provided the enrollment data to the state, school board or public even though it was developed by the end of November. Interested parties can contact Dr. Horoschak's office for information about the release date. JTL |
