Bigger and better than ever, the 5th Annual Maplewood Jazz Weekend takes place October 23-26, 2003

ArtsMaplewood, Maplewood NJ's civic volunteer arts organization, presents its 5th Annual Jazz Weekend, running Thursday October 23rd thru Sunday October 26th, featuring a wide array of exciting programs that feature the best in Jazz! To become an ArtsMaplewood Fan Club member, and
receive discounts on tickets, call 973.378.2133.

The weekend kicks off on Thursday, October 23rd, with Diane Moser’s Composers Big Band with special guest multi-instrumentalist Howard
Johnson, at the Burgdorff Cultural Center 10 Durand Rd. in Maplewood. The Composers Big Band has been at the forefront of new and exciting music for jazz orchestra for several years. Johnson is one of music’s most versatile performers and composers, playing everything from tuba to penny whistle!
Music begins at 8:00. Tickets are $15, $12 for seniors and $10 for students and will be sold at the door only.

The Jazz Weekend continues on Friday, October 24th with the "Jazz Crawl” a showcase of jazz acts performing in local restaurants and cafes
produced in conjunction with the Maplewood Village Alliance. Music will begin in the evening and go on through the night. Call 973.378.2133 for details, or check with your favorite night spots in Maplewood!

On Saturday morning, October 26th, ArtsMaplewood launches a new season of its popular "Music for Kids" series with "Brass and Jazz For Kids."
This hands-on music appreciation program for the entire family will take place at 9:30 A.M. and 11:00 AM at the Burgdorff Cultural Center,10 Durand Road in Maplewood. Tickets cost $5. ArtsMaplewood Fan Club members can bring two children for free! Tickets can be bought at the door, or purchased in advance at Robin Hutchins Gallery or Richard Roberts, Ltd,both in Maplewood. On Saturday night October 27th, the great Bill Charlap returns to the Burgdorff Cultural Center in Maplewood. Charlap, widely considered to be
one of this generation’s pre-eminent jazz artists, will be performing solo. The concert begins at 8:00 PM at the Burgdorff Cultural Center 10 Durand Road in Maplewood, NJ. Tickets are $25, $20 for seniors, and $10 for students. ArtsMaplewood Fan Club Members receive a discount. Tickets can be bought at the door, or purchased in advance at Robin Hutchins

On Sunday Afternoon, October 27, the Maplewood Community Jazz Band will be performing a free concert of Jazz favorites on the steps of Maplewood Town Hall, 574 Valley Road in Maplewood, NJ. The rain site is inside
Maplewood Town Hall. The music begins at 3:00 PM

The weekend is capped off Sunday evening, October 26th with a special benefit concert featuring legendary songstress Angela Bofill with special
guest 2003 Grammy winner vibist Dave Samuels. Angela Bofill has been thrilling audiences across the world with her soulful song stylings for
years, and Samuels is one of jazz’s most dynamic and exciting soloists. The performance is to benefit the artist in residence program at the Seth Boyden Elementary School in Maplewood, NJ. The concert takes place at the Seth Boyden School Auditorium, 274 Boyden Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.
Tickets are $30 for General Admission, $40 for VIP seating. For reservations, call NEW ERA tickets at 877.639.3728. Tickets also may be

sorry for the mistakes-the days are correct, not some of the dates

Jazz and Brass for kids takes place Saturday 10/25, as does the Bill Charlap concert

The Maplewood community Band concert takes place Sunday 10/26

The rest of the info is correct

Some information on the "Jazz Crawl" which takes place this Friday, 10/24.

There are 6 places around Maplewood that are featuring live jazz that night(more might be added, that info will be posted)Starting and ending times may vary, so call ahead.

Village Coffee Company and St James Gate in the Village: Verjus, Net Nomads,1978 Gallery on Springfield Ave and Astah's Gallery(at Springfield Ave and Burnett Ave)

There will be a wide variety of music offered, it will be worth it to visit more that one spot that night!
