If you enter from www.southorangevillage.com you don't get the opportunity to vote. At least I didn't. How about a poll on supermarkets, since we tend to keep coming back to it - where people tend to do most of their shopping (i.e. A&P, Pathmark, Kings, Fresh Fields, Livingston Shop Rite, etc.)? |

New2, Thanks for pointing that out. And I like the shopping poll idea. Larry, I agree, the results do show a stale economy. :-) Mtierney, What's wrong with reading a FAQ? You only have to read it once. If people can easily find answers there, it serves its purpose by preventing board clutter. Villagenative, Only the current poll can be actively voted on; previous polls are read-only. |

Dave, If you do the shopping poll, can you possibly allow multiple votes, i.e., a list in which we could make choices in priority order? I don't think that many of us shop in only one place, but we could certainly choose among the offerings and prioritize how frequently we're likely to shop in each of the stores listed. Would it be too difficult to set up that sort of thing? I envision a sort of grid:
Store | Branch | Always | Frequently | Occasionally | Never | | Kings | Maplewood | | Short Hills | Shoprite | Millburn | | Springfield | | Livingston | | Union | | Essex Green | Pathmark | A&P | Whole Foods | Other |

Don't forget the Foodtown in Springfield. |

I didn't mean for that list to be exhaustive - it was just an example. There are lots of other stores that could be on it: Trader Joe's, delis, butchers, but I don't know how much can be crammed into the survey. Maybe we need one for specialty food stores, too. |

Don't forget Cosco. Dave, I don't understand your response. On my IMac aol connection, I get that "request to read" each time I go on Maplewood Reval. Sometimes it pops up between threads. Like I said, annoying. |

Now *that* does sound annoying. I use Macs and don't see the mess you describe, but am not sure what AOL might be doing with it. The trouble with removing it is that people are referring to the faq and linking to the top of that page now and changing it would break those links. Anyone else who is experiencing this trouble? |

I don't have this problem, but I use "new messages" exclusively. I haven't had the problem when I've signed on using AOL, either. |

Speaking of Macs and new messages, every time I use new messages on my Mac, an error window pops up after I've entered my user name and gone to type in my password. I have to deal with the error window (picking "OK"), then I can type in my password. That's annoying. Here's the error message that I get: http://66.33.27.70/cgi-bin/discus/board-newmessages. cgi.line69:document.forms[0].method[1] has no properties This doesn't happen on the PC. Can you figure out what the problem could be, Dave? |

Jem, The next time you see the error, there's a checkbox in the bottom left that reads "Don't display errors". Check that and it will go away. |

Dave, Maybe I'm running an incompatible version of Netscape? I checked, it's version 4.05. That checkbox doesn't exist on the error window. Any other suggestions? |

Yep, that's a buggy browser. I had trouble with it, too, especially w/ Javascript errors. I upgraded to 4.7 and haven't had problems. |

Those 28% who voted "No children at all" - where are you? I've only met two other people in the area who don't have kids and aren't looking to have any. It's been hard for me to develop new relationships because so much of how women seem to make friends around here revolves around their kids. It sounds kind of silly but somedays it seems like you have to have a kid so you can play with their friends' parents. |

Dave, Could you possibly add the Essex Green Shop Rite to the list? Lots of us shop there, or at least I think that's the case. The poll will tell..... |

Too late, Jem, unless we re-do the whole vote, since so many of us voted already. I would like to have seen the Foodtown in Newark (Irvington Ave.) as well. |

Not sure about that, NJJ - I've noticed Dave has added categories after polls began before - in fact, he revised the "kids in M/SO schools" poll after it began. Dave? |

But it won't reflect an accurate vote, since I would have voted differently, and I'm sure others would have done the same. |

While the grocery vote is interesting, it would have been nice to have the percentages based on number of people who voted rather than number of votes cast. Dave, is there any way to show that? |

What's the difference between the number of people who voted and the number of votes cast? Are people voting more than once? (about grocery shopping?!) Dave, here one more that got left out: Food Town in Springfield. |

Yes, this poll allows multiple votes (checkboxes=multiple votes; radio buttons=one vote). And stores were left out so the graph wouldn't consume too much space. No, there is no way to get total voters at the moment. |

Fresh Fields changed names, to Whole Foods I think. It used to be on the poll. I guess it got rolled into "Collective/Other" |

Dave, I just noticed your response about check boxes in the grocery survey. I know how checkboxes operate, but when I checked one box and went on to the next one that I wanted to pick, my first checkmark disappeared. In other words, the survey operated for me as if it contained radio buttons, thus I ended out checking only "Collective/other." (This has nothing to do with my back-level version of Netscape on the Mac, either, since I did the survey on the PC.) |

I'm wondering how long the current poll re frequency of checking the board will stay up ... in order for the results to be statistically (somewhat) sound. It is also interesting to note that the numbers voting for 2x or more per day still seem to be increasing. Hmmmm! |
