Gee, seems someone has a problem with my having kids in private school....oh well, too bad. No one expects anyone who lives near C.H.S. to say anything bad....that would lower their property values! |

Harold, I don't live near CHS so my property values aren't in jeopardy. It's a normal high school. No high school is right for all kids. If yours are doing better in private school, no problem. Others do excel at CHS. |

Harold, how did you act when you were in high school? Were you a normal teenager and hung out with your friends (if you had any) or did your mommy pick you up everyday and drive you straight home to do your homework? I smell a NERD! |

Weberlang, As you can see there are lot's of good people in this town who welcome you with open arms. Hope you choose to join us. HArold, Nohero raises a good question on the other thread. If you're so unhappy here, why don't you just leave? |

Well, Harold, if it's your premise that we who live near the high school say positive things only in order to protect the value of our property, then you're condemning yourself to low property values because you have nothing good to say about your own neighborhood. Is that how it works? Maybe you should take your own "advice." Otherwise the price will never be right, and wouldn't that be too bad for all of us. |

I wish I knew where Harold lived so I can promote that neighborhood. This way, the property values will sky rocket and then he will sell and move, finally relieving us of his venom. |

Harold, if the price isn't right, think of how much you would save over the years if you moved to a town with a public school system much more to your liking. Think of the bigger picture! |

If anyone believes that kids in Milburn do not fight, they should spend a few days at that school. They do not report the fights to the police which Columbia seems more than willing to do. My daughter graduated a couple of years ago and not once did I hear about fights in school. I do remember reading about fights at Newark Academy and several kids being expelled several years ago. I cannot imagine any school, public or private where kids do not fight. |

Who brought up kids fighting in Millburn? Why do you constantly insist on comparisons to Millburn? |

People on this board seem obsessed with Millburn. |

It's called Millburn envy. Now it seems Millburn is getting state funding [some people think its because they have a mall] now they're livid about it. |

So many want to live in Millburn and So. Orange, but I want to stay right here in Maplewood. I love the village and small town feeling. I like the diversity. I like not living near a mall or a major theatre. I like the freedom from traffic congestion on the weekend. You get what you pay for. And with the high taxes in Maplewood, I get peace that I couldn't get elsewhere. To pay less would require that I give up other things. If you feel differently, fine. But Maplewood is exactly what I'm looking for. |

I think the Millburn reference is mostly because it's the nearest town most people are familiar with. But that's just a guess. Is there any town in specific that you would like to make comparisons to? May be Irvington, Livingston, Newark, Springfield or Union? Union Public Schools may be the best comparison as for the behavior of the students. But as far as other issues go I don't know. Again just a guess but... You will probably find the same, or worse, situations in all of these schools. Name a town and maybe we can do some research. Having lived in Union, Roselle Park and Plainfield, I think I'll stay in Maplewood as well! Not that I have anything against any of those towns. |

Harold was the one who brought up Milburn on an earlier post. And it is the obvious place to look at since they get such good grades. But if anyone believes that there were only two fights in their high school for a whole year and I have a bridge to sell them. |

My parents live 2 streets up from Columbia and in my opinion these kids are not acting "normally". They crowd the streets and refuse to move for cars and yell obscenities if you (god forbid) blow your horn to try to get through the mobs. One girl even pounded on the back of my car when I was making a turn onto my street. I'm not saying all the kids behave this way but I've seen my share. And Njjoseph- freedom from traffic?? Maplewood village is one big parking lot!! Especially on the weekends. This town is getting very overcrowded. |
