A pressure washer and some detergent does it for me. HD and other rental outlets will rent you one by the hour. An inexpensive one costs around $120 to purchase and will clean your sidewalks and deck.

Sorry, I have never rented one, since I bought an inexpensive model a few years ago. HD sells cleaning supplies for use with pressure washers in the paint department, to the left of the paint desk in the Union Store.

Will pressure washing take moss off of a brick terrace?

We have an evergreen at the corner of our patio - it casts a rather large shadow -the brick terrace underneath is close to being slippery with moss!

KMK, yep, no problem. We get mildew and some moss in a corner of our deck and the power washer cleans it off quickly.

One warning. Your patio may be "locked" together with sand between the bricks. If this is the case you may have to add sand after you finish since the water stream is very aggresive.

I rented a power washer from HD last year, and i believe it was about $75 for 4 hours (including a bottle of detergent, that didn't work the way they said it would). From that time, subtract about an hour for them to roll the machine 10 feet out the door and figure out how to lift it into your car. Then subtract another 20 minutes for a gas run, because they don't tell you that the tank comes only 1/4 full. Then take off another half hour from the end to load the washer back in your car and to get someone to pay attention to you at the tool rental desk when you try to return it on time.

If there's a chance you'll need to do this more than once in your life, i'd recommend buying one.

You can also try Union Rentall in Union. They rent power washers for $75/day and can also deliver. If I recall correctly, the proprietor's name is Brian or Ryan. He is reasonable and usually cheaper than HD.

One more thing: He was actually headed out to 'do a job' for someone when I was dropping off something I rented, so he might also rent himself out for small jobs if you ask him.

True it makes sense to buy if you'll use it a lot and have room to store it.

There's a place out on Rte 10 that rents tools and equipment and even with the travel time I think it's a better deal (and much less frustration) than HD. We got a power washer a few years ago for a day (they also do half days and longer periods) for about the same $75 and shared the cost with a neighbor who also needed to use it. They loaded it easily into our car and it came gassed.

I'll have to dig out the name and address but I think it's something like U Do It.
