I have taken the leap from the LUX TX500 to the Honeywell CT 3500 Electronic Thermostat. The instructions say its compatible with millivolt and gravity steam systems. I know my system is either one the other or both.

The system type selections in the manual are:
1) Gravity or steam system
2) Hot Water High efficiency
3) Gas or forced air furnace
4) Electric furnace

It doesnt go into detail about the cycles of each in the manual. I assume if I select #1, I will get the "steam cycle" the LUX does not support.

Question
When installed in the LUX in my wild and rebelious years, I did not shut the power to the furnace. Can I shut the power on a millivolt 1 pipe steam system and if so, how would or should I do it? I dont even think power is supplied to Millivolt systems in the conventional method. Am I correct? I dont want to take the chance and damage the Honeywell unit. I know its low voltage and its only 2 wires but I want to make sure I do it correctly.

Thanks

Power in a millivolt system is generated by the pilot flame. If you want to feel better about working with the wires just turn off the gas and don't forget to re-light the pilot when your done.

NRL,

On that CT3500, you want to set the Rate and the Cycle. For steam, set it to 4 for the Rate and 1 for the Cycle.

You should see 4 1 when done.

Oh Rats!, George it only lets me select one of the settings I listed in my post above. I dont think it lets me set the rate and cycle, just the type of system. Do you think I should return it and get the 8602 or some other model?

Sure it does.

Follow the Installer setup.

If you need a better book go to www.honeywell.com

Use the search for CT3500 (no space).

They have a setup wizzard, and you can get the install documents on line.

I just looked, and all was there.
