It appears the "Arizona" tex mex restaurant in downtown Maplewood went belly up, and a new restaurant will open there soon... Any info. on this...?? |

It's been belly-up for months and the signs about the new place have been there a while too. I don't know why they've been delayed, but last time I walked by I saw no evidence that they had done any work on it. |

There does seem to be a new deli type place next to Bill and Harry. Anyone tried it? |

I got their flier at the train station, so one of these days I'll call ahead and see how it fares. |

It's good. I think it's called "Cravings." Their hours are a little funny, closing at 6 or 7PM. They're more interested in the breakfast crowd than the dinner crowd. They have lox and smoked whitefish and herring and all that other stuff my family loves but I can't stand, in case any of you are interested in it. I had some pastrami that was pretty good. |

I had a turkey sandwich on crusty french bread. Excellent. Also I noticed they have char-broiled burgers, get it on a toasted kaiser roll, what could be better? |

I thought they were going to be called "The Shop" or something else real non-discript. Can you sit down in there? |

I think they have one or two teeny tables. It's basically for take-out. |

Personally, I was very disappointed with this new deli. I had hoped for some slightly more creative fare than the standard smoked fish, cold cuts and burgers. Almost all of these same food items can already be obtained at either Bagel Chateau, Maple Leaf or Kings. Why can't we get sandwiches made with more interesting ingredients, like high-quality unusual breads (okay, they have brioche, but that was it), chutneys, mustards, arugula, watercress, goat cheese, ... Granted, sandwiches made with these ingredients would cost more, but who wants to eat such boring, uninspired food? Also, I went in one morning for coffee - the coffee was terrible, the radio was blaring bad music (annoying at any time but downright nerve jangling in the morning), and the owner was too busy on the phone to notice me get up and leave after sitting down for just two minutes. They did a nice job on the interior, but it's wasted on ordinary food and bad management. |

How about giving them some feedback. I agree that more inspired food may be a plus. Maybe I'll mention it. |

I actually considered saying something to the owner when I was in there for coffee, but as I said, she was on the phone and took no notice of me. If I were starting a new business, I would want as much face-to-face contact with my customers as possible, both to make them feel welcome and to make sure that I was meeting their needs. |

I totally agree. Boring. Even the name is somewhat offensive. However, the prices are at a gourmet level. |
