We have both tried to clear the mess in our side yard and have both been victims of the nasty poison ivy that grows there. We want to get rid of it so it wont come back next year. has anyone found a landscaper that will take care of this problem? |

If you use the spray that is specifically designed for poison ivy, it will work. You have to spray it liberally so it will penetrate and kill the roots. Of course, it will kill anything else around. I have found poison ivy in about 5 different places in my yard this year; it has found me thrice. Since I get it badly I've learned to take prednisone immediately to stop its spread. Good luck. Blame our wet spring and summer. |

Czele, We've had problems with this terrible plant also. The spray is the only thing that seems to kill it. Tear it out and it seems to come back in a couple of places. The spray did kill two great hostas nearby so we had to replant that whole area. There's a new skin cleanser (new to me) called Tecnu that is supposed to 'unlock' the poison ivy oil from your skin if used within a few hours of exposure. It's hard to tell if it works or if I'm so paranoid about getting the oil on me, I don't. I had two really bad cases and learned my lesson. If you do break out, I've found an oatmeal bath soak is good and Burt's Bees has a soap that helps dry up the rash. They also make calamine lotion in clear so you don't have to go around with that distinctive pink stuff blotched on your skin. One other precaution: These oils stick to anything and will last on gloves or tools, etc for a really long time (months/years?). Don't touch anything you use to work with this plant. Good luck, R. |
