Being a new homeowner I'm not sure what we are supposed to do as far as termite prevention. Is it normal to have a contract or get "sprayed(?)" at any set interval?

Eliz, normally I don't think people start a contract unless they have evidence of termites; the contracts are fairly expensive and lock you in for several years. Unless your home inspector identified some trouble spots, most people hold off and just call Terminix or Viking once a year to check for any infestation. That's what we've always done. I think if you do that, you should be OK. And, of course, never store logs piled up against the house or let your shrubs touch the house--that's one way termites go inside the house.

Wilbur - thanks you answered my question - a regular inspection I guess is what I meant.
