When growing up in Ossining, NY in the 1960's, I went to school with many blacks who would bring the monthly James Brown newsletter to school.

At lunch boys and girls would take turns imitating SB#1.

In every newsletter was the plea to stay in school.

His live record from the Apollo is still one of the best r&b releases, IMHO, right up there with Sam Cooke's, Live at the Harlem Club.
