A little more than 20 years ago, Prince formed a girl group called Vanity 6 who put out a self titled album. I love this music and cannot find it.

Really super funky, wonderfully produced and I GOTTA HAVE IT ON MY IPOD!!

A cd was apparently released in 1990--does anyone have this music in any form, ideally cd?

A wonderful song on the album that you might remember is called "If a Girl Answers, Don't Hang Up". Prince does the voice of the girl who answers, I'm told!!

His baaad purpleness really hit it out of the park for me by getting these girls together--don't know if he wrote the music and played all the instruments as usual but I wouldn't be surprised...

Listen well, all, and many thanks for checking your music collections.

David: A search on Amazon came up with this:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000008LYC/qid=1067617973/sr=8-12/ ref=sr_8_12/103-8312809-4200635?v=glance&s=music&n=507846

I remember the song so I was curious.

m:

I had found that link so I guess I wasn't truthful when I said I couldn't find it however, at $119.00, it might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned, so that's probably why I said it.

Thanks for the url anyway.

Listen well, all.

I see your point. Ebay is better and this is only one of a few that came up but I think it will meet your goal.

David, If you want it really bad, download Kazaa, get your music and then uninstall the progam. I do it all the time. Make sure you run an ad-aware program after you uninstall Kazaa.

David, the reason why that album is so hard to come by and so expensive is that when "vanity" became a born again christian she bought up all the rights to that music so it could no longer be distributed. She claims she is ashamed of that part of her life. Good Luck

I checked on Kazaa and they only have 3 Vanity 6 songs...and not the one you wanted.
I use Kazaa alot for music and videos.
(It's FREE)
How can they prosper and Napster couldn't?
Can someone offer an explanation?

Kazaa is just as illegal as using Napster if you are using it to download copyrighted music and videos.

The problem Napster ran into was that their sole purpose was to allow people to share music. Kazaa, Gnutella, Bearshare, etc. portray themselves as providers of software for generic file sharing...not necessarily copyrighted music. Although that is what most people use them for.

So, if you do plan to download music, I wouldn't keep your downloaded files in the "shared" folder unless you want RIAA to come knocking on your door. Of course this goes against the whole premise of file-sharing, but hey, it's better than jail.

Cubeless...

How can one move his shared folder to a different folder?

Open up Windows Explorer and check under Program Files, then it is probably under a folder called "Kazaa", under that folder, there is probably a folder called DOWNLOADS.

Create a new folder somewhere else and drag all of the files from the "download" folder into your new folder. Kazaa is set up to only allow other users to share files in that specific "download" folder. Once you move your files from that folder, "no one" will be able to view/share your files.

FYI, when I say "no one" will be able to see your files, this means a normal Kazaa type user...not a hacker.

Woody,
THe folder you are looking for is called "My Shared folder". Just move your downloads from the shared folder to any personal folder on your hardrive. As Cubeless says it defeats the whole purpose of file sharing but its better than getting a visit from "the man".

ALso, beware of Kazaa and all of the hidden spyware programs it runs in the background. Even when you unninstall Kazaa the spyware stays on your computer and will require manual deletion. Let me know if anyone needs more detail on this topic.

But what about my Vanity 6 music??....waa...waaa....I REALLY want it. ;-D

Kim: you are so hip--I bet you're right--see, just another example of how religion is inimical to life (mine, anyway!)
BTW, no Vanity 6 music in your collection??

Listen well, all.

I had this album I'm pretty sure. Was the cover a picture of a pretty girl on the beach with a little rat type dog in a beach bag ?. I had 4000 lp's but when I moved from Brooklyn, I sold/gave away a lot of what I wasn't listening to. I seem to remember liking this lp though so I may still have it. I'll look around this week and if I still have it, will let you know and you can tape/burn it.
