I've seen a few other threads on the subject, so I feel like I know who to go to in town... are there any ordinances I should be aware of when it comes to tree removal? I've checked with the neighbors on both sides and they're OK with what I want to do... is there anyone else I need to check with?

Also, is there a certain time of year that is best for tree trimming/removal? I have a few pine trees that are too close to the house and I want to take them out. There are also some large trees in the back yard and I want to thin out the canopies.

Thanks in advance!

If you want to completely remove pine trees do it before the ground hardens.

When the leaves fall you can trim your trees. Choose old growth removal over new/young growth. If you are thinning out the canopies I assume you are doing it to limit size.

If you are doing it to promote even growth throughout the canopy choose selective branches that shade interior growth. This way you will allow the sun to invogorate interior canopy growth.

BTW, I'm assuming the trees you refer to are really trees and not large flowering bushes.

Thanks for the tips, Wharf. These are definitely trees. Are there any MW laws I need to be aware of?

I think you need a permit for trees above a certain age/size in diameter. Check with Town Hall. If I am right, not everyone follows the law, however.

Most tree surgeons' prices go down between January and March. If you're using a service, ask about this.

There are no ordinances regulating tree removal in Maplewood.
