The family is going to Florida and we want to go on an Everglades expedition (no, we aren't feeding my in-laws to any gators). We want something good, not one of those fan boat tours of future shopping center parking lots, with tame alligators. Any suggestions. We will be in northern Broward County. Thanks! |

I lived in Duval county Fl for a while and we would venture down to the everglades for trips all the time. I don’t have any specific names but I never experienced a tame trip through the everglades. Those folks are crazy. If you’re looking to see some strange stuff, ask your guide if there are any swamp villages around. These are not for the faint of heart, bizarre towns in the middle of nowhere. There not really towns, bait shops, boat parts, and freaky people, don’t bring any little kids.

I lived in Miami for a while and used to always take my visiting relatives to the Everglades and do the bike trip around Shark Valley. From Broward you would take 95 South to Tamiami trail its about an hour away. The bike ride is 15 Miles and I think you can rent bikes there if needed. But the best part about this is that you are among the alligators. No cages, no barriers, just you, your bike and the wild life. Lots of cool birds, and turtles along with those gators. P.S. For those who are not exactly ready to frolic with the gators, there is a tram tour. |

Ditto for Shark Valley. We're ex-Miami and my husband used to do the bike ride regularly and ride right through paths with alligators watching him from either side! Plus if you take Tamiami Trail there are loads of Airboat ride options in case you're feeling less energetic! |
