I won't name my electrician - I'm still up in the air about the rewiring job he's doing, but here are three things I'm not thrilled about: Installed new box in basement directly below shutoff for outdoor faucet. This was an expensive upgrade, and I was surprised to see that if my pipe ever bursts, My whole electrical system will fry. He told the inspector the pipe was coming out, and it will, but now I've got to deal with getting a plumber in, etc. Installed outlet right behind where a radiator will go. Radiator was pulled, but the pipe was still there, and the radiator was standing there in the middle of the room. Obviously, it was not a kosher spot for an outlet. Opened my attic door and turned on the house fan because the tapers were making a lot of dust sanding the joint compound. It bothered him while he was working. That door had been taped and all during the demo of old plaster the attic, where all of our second floor posessions are stored, had stayed clean. Now everything has an eighth inch of plaster dust on it.

I know I am stating the obvious, but my wife is watching the bachelor and I am bored. 1) Electricans usually ask the customer where they want receptacles installed since they are a commodity in old houses. If he did not and your not happy, make him fix it. 2) Someone must have told him the faucet pipe was gong to be removed so he put the outlet there. He must have assumed it was sooner than later.. 3) Let the guy thats going to put the radiator back remove the faucet also while he is there. Economies of scale. He doesnt sound very bright in either event. Especially to turn the fan on without asking. Unless hes a friend I would call someone else in to do your electric and give him a wet washcloth to wipe down your stuff in the attic. |

May help to find someone who is "bonded and insured" as well as licensed. Especially look for the "bonded" part. |

We just had an ordeal of ineffectiveness with our heating system repairs. My husband and my mom called (at separate times during the saga, which included no heat on two nights of nippy temps recently) and let them know we were not pleased with the fact that we had paid $$$ for a job that wasn't done satisfactorily. My husband being a native NYCer was very reticent to engage with them...however, not only did they send several techs out at various times, finally actually getting it fixed, they gave us back 1/3 of the $$ AND in the process of fixing the job, they realized they had installed a recalled part. Message I want to convey - CALL THE OFFICE AND COMPLAIN (exact hubbie's words were 'I am calling to register a serious complaint', mine perhaps would have been 'I have a major concern')...- if they are reputable and customer satisfaction oriented, they will want to please you and will do what they need to make it right - and they may realize they did something incorrectly, like that recalled part, we must always advocate for our homes I am finding (ah coop life was so much easier, except for waht to do about the drunken homeless guy crooning outside our window at 1 am). GOOD LUCK! |
