Just bought and built three IKEA bookcases. They are against the wall but need to be secured. They also need to be pulled back to the wall at the top in order to have them be level. Does anyone have instructions on how to accomplish this. The bookcases came with a L-shaped piece of metal with holes on both ends, one to screw to the bookcase, one side to the wall. However, I'm not sure of the best way to connect them in order to pull the bookcase back to the wall. Any ideas? Thanks!

we have Ikea bookcases like that. We used the L shaped thingee with a piece of heavy duty fabric (provided?) and attached the to the wass that way to keep them safe. They aren't pulled flush with the wall though.

We used "Wobble Wedges" (i think they are available at Bed Bath and Beyond -- if not there, they are definitely available at the Container Store) to tilt them back a little to fit flush with the wall. If you have kids, you should use the bracket with fabric thing to make them very secure. Once we loaded the books on they were very stable.

Buy some shims at the hardware store. When securing the shelves, find a stud to screw the tether into.

We have had numerous Ikea bookshelves for over 25 years (through 3 kids growing up). We never used the L-shaped thingys--just home-made shims to tilt them back slightly. They have never tipped over. Unless you have children who are likely to climb up them, I wouldn't worry about attaching them to the walls.
