Comparing the performance of the 350 Columbia High School students whose SAT scores are recorded in the 1999-2000 Report Card with the 11,909 students and 55 other high schools in South Orange-Maplewood School District's socio-economic grouping (District Factor Group I) the results are: MATH * Average score - Columbia = 523; DFG I = 571. CHS rank = 56th of 56 DFG I schools * 25th %ile score - Columbia = 430; DFG I = 495. CHS rank = 1 of 56 DFG I schools * 50th %ile score - Columbia = 520; DFG I = 574. CHS rank = 55th of 56 DFG I schools * 75th %ile score - Columbia = 610; DFG I = 651. CHS rank = 50th of 51 DFG I schools (56 - 5 ties with Columbia) VERBAL * Average Score - Columbia = 505; DFG I = 544. CHS rank = 54th of 55 DFG I schools (56 - 1 tie with Columbia) * 25th %ile score - Columbia = 410; DFG I = 473. CHS rank = 56th of 56 DFG I schools * 50th %ile score - Columbia = 500; DFG I = 544. CHS rank = 29th of 48 DFG I schools (56 - 8 ties with Columbia) Comparing with the 10,213 students in 46 (including CHS) high schools in DFG GH, the next lower socio-economic grouping, the results are: MATH * Average score - Columbia = 523; DFG GH = 537. CHS rank = 33rd of 45 DFG GH schools (46 - 1 tie with Columbia) * 25th %ile score - Columbia = 430; DFG GH = 462. CHS rank = 41st of 46 DFG GH schools * 50th %ile score - Columbia = 520; DFG GH = 514. Fringe, Are there any breakdowns of SAT scores by demographic and economic factors? - race, religion, gender, family income, educational background of parents, etc., etc. |

What "diversity." I love the beautiful mosaic: brilliant performance combined with abysmal, anti-performance. And they all graduate!!! The district keeps racial statistics, (of course this itself is not racist!). They have a pincushion map of each house in district, each child is a colored pin, the colors are color coded, for non-racist purposes. Does the district keep track of SAT performance, by when the student entered district and students' earlier standardized scores, e.g., ESPA, Vespa, Terra Nova, Stanford 8? Didn't Latz propose some type of continuous assessment mode? How about a comparison mode, student to himself, and to his lower grade education. Revolutionary. DWM |
