I know there has been some talk of how to fill cracks in plaster but I don't have cracks so much as ridges where lines of plaster are raised above the surface of the wall or ceiling. My thought was to scrape them down with a putty knife and then repair with joint compund. Does this make sense? Thanks.

Ashear, Your approach makes sense as far as the scraping however someone told me recently that plaster cracks should be patched with sheetrock joint tape. I am not sure I agree. I would rather use the fiberglass mesh or just joint compound but I think over time th plaster expands and the cracks will return. Let see if anyone cuts in with some better advice.

I agree that the cracks will re-appear.
Scrape, tape and mud as mentioned above.
