We saw the Elf movie with Will Ferrell last night. It was light and amusing. It's a pretty typical happy ending kind of flick, but great for kids and adults alike. Hopefully this will turn into a Christmas classic.

I'd say it's good for a 6 year-old, but some of the jokes might go over his or her head. It's not that their raunchy, just a bit sophisticated. (Like Buddy's eagerness to accept those annoying sale flyers from sidewalk vendors. Funny only if you're an adult and have walked down a NYC street.) It's a surprisingly touching movie. |

I like to see Will Ferrell get this success. Clearly the funniest guy in the world after Steve Martin (close call with Chris Rock). Can't wait to see him play the lead in Confederacy of Dunces (when I first read the book, I pictured WF playing the part). Ignatius_J: hear about this? |

Although I don't have children, I'm pretty careful to recommend movies to parents of kids because I don't know what their tolerance of certain things are, but the only stuff I would be concerned about in this movie is the time when Buddy dukes it out w/Santa (played by Artie from Howard Stern Show). Some parents are okay with this type of stuff, but I tend to be a little stuffy about it. |

I'm feeling pretty inarticulate today. I used the word "stuff" three times in a relatively small post! Sorry! |

I took my 5 and 10 year old to the movie and we all enjoyed it. I'm usually very bored at "kids" movies, but found Elf amusing. |

My mother and my daughter both thought the movie was hilarious. Combined with all of your recommendations, looks like I'll have to put that movie on the list to see. Of course, I'm also waiting for that other "elf" movie to open:

My kids liked the movie and I did too...my only caveats, depending on what you find acceptable in a kids' movie...some bodily function humor (gas of different varieties) and two characters, a father and son, say "Up Yours" to another character. I wasnt pleased (and didnt think it was necessary to make the movie more appealing) but movie makers feel its necessary to attract an older kid or to appeal to a broader range of humor. |
