With the last windy day occurring on a recycling day, our "recycling containers" were carried off down the street. We realized it's probably time to use something sturdier than cardboard boxes and plastic milk crates. Any recommendations for the use of those standard recycle bins (blue, yellow, etc, with recycle symbol on the side)? Should I try to find these, and if so, what color, if it matters? Thanks. |

I don't think color matters. My observation is that the different colors coincide with different sizes. We actually liked some that were white rather than colors. We originally bought them at IKEA, but then some got broken due to rough treatment by the recyclers and a couple blew away on one of those windy days (lesson: you can't really prevent that from happening, but you can write your address on the containers with permanent marker and have a better chance of getting them back.) When we went to replace them, we found that IKEA no longer carried them, but The Container store had some very similar ones online at http://www.containerstore.com. |

Our plastic containers (one a full-size trash can for plastic recycling) blew away during the recent windstorm and we happened to find them a few days later while walking around the block. I don't think you can fully prevent loss. |
