We were considering using Acorn Home Improvements to do some blow in insulation. Does anybody have any experience with this company that they can share and\or any experiences with blow in insulation in general. Anything to look\ask for?

thanks

used them about 2 years ago to add attic insulation to about 900 square feet and the cost was about $1000.

thought their price was reasonable, they left the place very clean afterwards, too.

only thing is -- they ran out during the job -- and had to go a distance to get more (their warehouse? -- I don't exactly remember).

still -- they got it all done in a day.

in my case they "edged" the attic with fiberglas batt insulation, and put some sort of "boxes" around a couple of recessed lights. then they blew in the new white insulation.

what i had read is that its easy to get cheated on this kind of insulation job. what i had read suggested calculating # of bags needed (to get the R value for the # of square feet) -- and to count the bags put into the blowing machine.

however, i was not there all day -- so couldn't do that. 2nd floor seems more comfortable -- so i have to believe they put in what they said.

good luck!

Pete

I have found the following book very informative: "Insulate and Weatherize" by Bruce Harley. Points about insulation:
- Plug your air leaks first. This is a very laborious job, but insulation is useless if you haven't done it.
- Make sure you have a vapor barrier.

Received another quote from a company called "Blow In Insulation Co" based in Denville.

Any feedback?

We had insulation work done, both blown-in and fiberglass batts, a couple of years ago by Paulsen Insulation from Basking Ridge, and we were happy with them. Their number is 908-647-3874.
