The Energy Star and New Jersey Clean Energy Program are providing Compact Fluorescent lightbulbs at just 99 cents at local participating stores. Whole fixtures starting at just $4 as well as an assortment of bulb types including R-30 and R-40 relflectors and floor lamps are also available at tremendous savings for both you and the environment. National Wholesale Liquidators and Siperstein paints on Rt. 22 in Union have the best selection. See www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=lighting.pr_lighting for more info.

The bulbs and fixtures are made my Maxlite, a NJ company, and except for the 25 watt 3-way models, I have found them to be very good, brite, warm colored bulbs.

Is there a fluorescent equivalent to floodlights such as are used in some hi-hat lights? I haven't yet found anything equivalent.

tjohn -- YES there is! no surprise, but Home Depot does not carry them, while Lowes does (did).

I bought them about 2 years ago -- and have not had to replace any -- so while I'd think they'd have them -- I can't be 100% sure!

The only downside is they cannot be dimmed, although there are apparently dimmers for flourescents that could be put in.

I believe they draw 16 or 18 watts each -- quite a savings over the standard 85 - 100+ watts. And the ones from Lowes look the same as regular lights -- no exposed coils, and have a warm light.

Pete

National Wholesale Liquidators have the R-30 and R-40 reflectors for hi-hats. They are 15 and 23 watt, respectively. Equivalent to 60 and 100 watt and the R-30 is only $2. Look at the end of the electrical lighting isle. Maxlite brand. They take a minute to warm up to full briteness, otherwise they are equivalent or better than an incandescent.
