I live in Maplewood and am looking for Puerto Rican neighborhoods where I can be in touch with the culture and music and food. Is anyone aware of an area like this nearby?

I think you'll have to go out to Newark. There are a lot of Puerto Ricans in the North End (North Ward?) part of town. Also check out the main branch of Newark Public Library on Washington Street, with the largest Spanish-language public collection in the state and a good selection of videos.

Dear Ina,
You sound very knowledgeable in the Spanish language area. Do you also know any great Puerto Rican Restaurants?

Thank you!
L.

Duncanl: Possibly you are a newcomer to our community, and thus unaware that a neighborhood with an over or under-representation of any particular ethnic/racial group is not viewed with favor. Docents from our local civic group would be willing and able to provide you with guidance on this matter. Then, you would qualify to be told the location of a small Jersey City venue where marc anthony recently appeared. In the meantime, Cablevision (available in S.O. and Newark) still shows repeats of last year's Puerto Rican Day parade. For food, you can check out 2nd and Grand in Hoboken (though I am told the owners may be Dominican).

Chico,
I purposely placed this message line in the NON-CONTROVERSIAL area of this board. Although your message is very confusing, I can only gather that you have found controversy where there was none intended. I'm sorry for you that you find that necessary. Thanks for the tip on the Hoboken restaurants, though.

Duncanl: ud tenia razon; lo siento. Please accept my recommendation for "Cuban food" as a sign of my sincerity. I will now post it in the previously created "Cuban food" thread in the "Dining/entertainment" section.
