Any advice on where to buy a pleated shade? So far I've looked at Terminal Mill Ends and Blinds To Go and Blinds to Go was much cheaper, but I don't know if that means not good quality. |

You may want to look at smithandnoble.com. They have a wide variety of fabrics and styles. I have been thinking about ordering from them but haven't yet. I have friends who have and have been very pleased. |

We purchased pleated shades, which open & close from the top & bottom from Blinds to Go. They were 3/4 of the price of ones at Smith & Noble. I've been pretty happy with them. The only problem is that sometimes they stick when I raise & lower them, but that may be the cats. We never had problems until we got kittens. For the past two years, the shades have been jumped on, attacked, etc. All things considered, they've held up very well. |

Home Depot also has decently priced options too. We bought pleated shades for our daughter's playroom & they were a fraction of the price of most stores. |

I've bought slatted blinds from Smith and Noble and been very happy with the quality. They offer free swatches so that you can pick just the right color, and they sometimes have promotional discounts - I just got new blinds that were discounted 15%. I imagine that their pleated shades are good quality, but I personally dislike pleated shades because unless you absolutely have to keep a window completely covered at all times, you have to keep pulling them up and down to get full daylight in a room. With blinds you just tilt the slats and you have plenty of light and still have a fair amount of privacy. In a previous house (4 houses ago!) I chose to have pleated shades, and I was so unhappy with them that I swore I'd never buy them again. There are pleated shades on the windows in several rooms of my present house, and I still find them annoying. But they wouldn't keep making 'em if someone out there didn't like 'em. Your mileage may vary. |

Jem- If you ever want to consider another option, give the "up/down" pleated shades a look. I feel the same way you do & I hate covered windows. We have the tops lowered on our shades in the bedroom & the bottoms are down all the way. I wake up with full sunlight & total privacy. In the nice weather, I raise the lower portion a bit, so that the "covered" part is in the middle of the window. You can see them on display at Blinds to Go & order them from many places, including Smith & Noble. |

We have, on 3 different occasions, placed orders for pleated shades and honeycombs with greatwindows.com and highly recommend them. Their quality is good, their prices are quite reasonable, and in each case we've received our order in less than one week. Catalogs and swatches can be requested online at their website. |

I've had the Blinds-to-go 'serenity' sheers in a bay window for over two years now. They were pricey, but the filtered light is pefect. The plants in the window sure seem to love them too! I'm looking into the top-down honeycombs now ironically, having just learned of them. I'll check out greatwindows.com. Smithnoble.com & catalog is an amazing resource as well, in all they have to offer and fabrics to coordinate in a section of 'palettes' even, but definitely a purchase you'd be saving up for, and I do not know anyone thats used them personally. |
