I want to replace an existing mortise lock set. I have seen alot on the internet, but was wondering if there are any local places to pick one up. |

Try an architectural salvage place. I'm not sure if there is one around here, but I've found plenty of great stuff, including mortise lock sets, at Olde Good Things in the city. You can shop online at http://www.oldegoodthings.com, but I think you'll have better luck going to their store (24th St. btw. 6th & 7th Aves). They have tons of old hardware. Just be sure to bring your lock set along so you get an exact match. |

You can actually get these at the Home Depot now. (At least they had them in Union/Vauxhall.) Question is, does it make as much sense to replace it with modern lock hardware, which although it will take a bit longer, will be better in the long run. That's wholly a question of taste and sometimes door finishes but when my Front door stopped behaving well in terms of locking and unlocking, I upgraded to new hardware, fixing the holes in the old door.
