We bought a new house and it has typical accordion
looking radiators (like my technical knowledge?)
except for our master br. The MBR has this long
tube kind of thing (with a woven metal sheeth) which still operates on the steam line but takes up the length of the room.

ANy and all help with the following questinos would be greatly appreciated:

Can I replace it with a smaller accordion?

What do I call it to a plumber or whomever when I call them?

Any guesses how much to replace it?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

The accordion looking radiators are most likely standard cast iron radiators.

The long tube king of thing sounds like a steam baseboard.

The baseboard can probably be replaced with a cast iron unit (see www.burnham.com for some radiator styles). Undoubtedly, there was a cast iron radiator before there was a baseboard unit. The cast iron radiator might be 3 x 4 feet, so it won't be small. OTOH, you can purchase an attractive cover for it.

The cost - not really sure - plan for $500-$1000.

Plumbers - again not sure, but many on this board speak well of Gateway Plumbing.
