Has anyone watched the televised version of the TC Meeting tonight? I could only watch 2 minutes of it because of the horrible audio. I think that they shouldn't even broadcast it. Does anyone know if they pay to have it broadcast? If they do, they can save us a lot of money and torture to our ears by not broadcasting it.

Yes, I watched. The audio was awful. I tried to call town hall, too, and realized no one was going to answer the phone. I briefly considered jumping into the car and telling someone about the problem, but, it was too cold and I was pretty sure there'd be no nearby parking. It appears that the sound was fine for the people who were actually there.

In the end, I managed to just deal with the sound for about 2 hours by constantly readjusting the volume control. I was able to decipher about 95% of what was said after I got accustomed to the odd reverb or whatever it was. I'm exhausted, but I'm glad I watched it.

See my response on another thread. I too suffered through the sound problem. For two hours I held the remote in my hand so I could raise and lower the volume button - and I have carpel tunnel!
I failed to mention in my previous post that the angle of the camera almost successfully cut off being able to see the speakers from the public. The mike could have been shifted ever so slightly. Perhaps a conspiracy?

Probably not a conspiracy, just not a priority.

I called the "night" number and reached the police -front desk. The advise I got was to call Comcast.

Sound checks are routine whenever applification is used in public presentataions, so I'm not sure why Maplewood has such a hard time being prepared for the broadcast of their meetings.

A few suggestions:

Perhaps whoever is overseeing the broadcast might try to set up the system a hour early, and then actually watch a TV to see and hear what the viewers are seeing and hearing. It was clear from last night's experience that no one had any idea what was being broadcast.

Or:

There is at least one gentleman in town who has volunteered on more than one occasion to help with the sound. If those doing the broadcast can't get it right, why not ask for some professional help? It would probably benefit everyone involved.

C'mon guys, let's get our act together here.

The problem with the sound was not at town hall. We had everything checked that afternoon to ensure that the sound in the meeting room and in the outer hallway was working properly. The problem was with the feed from the high school where the tv studio is located.

When we received the information from the police about the sound problem we had the gentleman referred to, who volunteered to help us and was at the meeting, look over the system. He determined that it coming from the high school studio.

We video tape the meetings and use that for the rebroadcasts. That tape should not have the sound distortions. We will post the dates and times of the rebroadcasts.

Remember that it is vacation week and no one is at the high school studio. Surely the TC has a schedule of when the schools are closed???

The sound at Town Hall was bad too.

How about holding a fund raiser for a new town hall sound system and involving Springfield Avenue merchants? We could kill the proverbial two birds with a single stone.

The town hall video/tv system is run by the high school - very talented kids I may add. The T.C. should be aware of the school schedule and should have known that, on the date of one of the most important meetings in the town's history, there would not be support from the high school. Wouldn't it have been smart to hire someone to run things that night?
Obviously, no T.C. thought went into this.

Several threads back following those public meetings I suggested that we improve the sound system and perhaps could lean upon a knowledgeable volunteer who could made some suggestions and recommendations.
I was roundly chastized for being willing to spend money so that the public could hear what the committee was doing up there!
I recall something about either elementary school music OR a better sound system...
Never did understand comparing the school budget and the municipal budget in that manner.
Perhaps after the debacle of the cable sound, some construction attention might be paid about this situation.
