I know there are some posters that live in the Hilcrest area so I figured I ask you first. Did anyone notice kids shooting a bb gun in the area of Boyden Ave and Hilcrest Rd.? Friends of ours live in the area and on Tuesday during the daytime the wife was out in the yard doing some work when she heard a couple of bings but saw nothing. A few seconds later she was hit with a bb, it left a mark in her jacket and she heard it hit her. She called the police and explained what had happened and then told the police that there were kids in the house accross the street that kept moving the shades in the window. The officer that responded then told her it was probably her imagination and basically left with that. The officer didn't even get out of his car!!! A little while later a bunch of kids came out of the house laughing. She was not hurt but if it had been one minute earlier her son would have been hit in the head because he was standing in the spot where she was hit. So, if anyone knows these kids or has had a problem in the area please post a thread so we can get something done about it. It doesn't appear one persons complaint warrants an investigation. |

Cbbk, If this incident happened and nothing was done she should call the chief's office! Immediately! If she doesn't feel comfortable doing that, she can let me know and I will call or go to the station with her. I live on Hillcrest and have called the police a few times over the many years that I've lived here; both for myself and on neighbors' behalf. I've never had the police respond as you've described regardless of what I've called to report. If she called there will be record of who the officer was that responded. BTW, did she knock on the door of the house that she says a shot came from and ask to speak to an adult. Either immediately or at a later time? |

I agree with you Kap! I can't believe Cbbk's friend didn't force the issue with the policeman to file the report or ask for a supervisor. I also can't believe that the policeman acted that way, and if he did, is someone who certainly doesn't belong on the Maplewood police force. |

Kap, and Njjosesph, She had called the Police again on Thursday night when she noticed that one of her windows had a bb hole in it. She found the bb on her window sill and decided she wasn't going to be blownoff by the Police again. This time the officer was respectful and took the report and the Police Department even called her back on Friday to follow up. They said they were going to check out the house in question. Hopefully they will be able to do something to these kids and maybe even get money from the family for the window and also her car has a ding in it from a bb. |

Hopefully they will also check out the officer who didn't bother to take a report the first time, while the kids (I'm assuming here) probably still had the BB gun in their hot little hands! I think a formal complaint should be filed. Bacata |

This is a much more serious incident than it at first appears: When I was living in Framingham, Mass. I knew a child who was killed with a BB gun. A teenager was playing w/his new toy (hey, great birthday present, dad!) and "accidentally" shot a toddler who lived across the street. The toddler was shot in the neck and died. BB guns can be just as dangerous as small-caliber weapons and should be treated as such. |
