Trying to find a good GP...someone recommended Dr. Solomon but his office has not returned numerous calls. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Based on this board's recommendations I went to Dr. Frankel. She was exactly as described by a number of people - very thorough, very professional, and very lacking in warmth. While I felt entirely confident in her medical skills, and I did feel like she listened to my concerns and took them seriously, I prefer to work with someone whose style is more interactive. |

I actually went to Dr. Frankel for 2 years & left. I have had her cut me off in the middle of a sentence, telling me to get to the point. I have asked her about medications, only to have them answered with her hand on the door. I, too, attributed this to lack of patient manners. However, at my last physical, no one took my weight (a standard) and she told me to take sudafed which is contraindicated with a prescription medicine I take. All in all- I was completely unsatisfied with her. I then went to Dr. Doug Roth in the Short Hills Summit Medical Group practice. I LOVE him ! he is the exact opposite of Frankel. Everytime I go in, whether for allergies or a physical- he reads my entire chart and asks about everything. I have even told him he is annoying because he won't write more than a six-month perscription for a chronic condition- he insists on a face to face visit. To make matters even better, Summit Medical Group is actually quite inexpensive (comparatively) and they take most insurance plans- managed care or otherwise. |

Unfortunately, Summit Medical Group doesn't take my insurance (Horizon BC/BS), has anyone else got a suggestion? |

Deborah, I'm in the same plan you are and am in need of a PCP. Please let me know if you find someone you like. |

I have been going to Dr. Mendola here in Maplewood, based on recommendations from this board. (You might find more details in you can search the archieves.) He's nice, has a slightly warped sense of humor, his nurse is a dream, but the receptionist is a grouch. But if you don't let her intimidate you, you can usually get what you need (referrals, last minute appointment, etc.) Can't speak to the quality of his medical care - I've only been in for minor stuff, but I have no complaints. |

I go to Trina cause she's the nearest doc on my plan. Lacking in warmth? That's an understatement. She's like one of those animatronic things in Disney World. I swear you could walk in holding your severed head under your arm and she would have no reaction. Still she's okay for dispensing antibiotics...for everything else I get a referral to a specialist. |

Phyllis- we love Mendola as well. We have been going to him for years and have had EXACTLY the same experience with his office staff. Funny, isn't it? He's a nice, genuine guy who always seems to remember our non-medical personal information. We are very happy with him. And we also have BC/BS, so I know he takes it. Good luck! |

We go to Dr. Frankel because she is on our plan and find her rather stiff. However, she has gotten a new partner, Dr. Nalbitt who is much more personable. The office staff is very nice which is what you need for referrals! |

Ha!!! LOVE the description of Trina Frankel above. Maybe Nalbitt is worth a try, though. I will try Mendola as well. Thanks! |

Mammabear - I'm sure I once read on this board that you just need to be extra sweet to Alice (the receptionist in Mendola's office) and she'll come around. And did it work! I'm not sure if she's capable of cracking a smile, but when you take the time to use her name, and ask her for something politely, she really tries her best to help you. Even though you feel you're stressing her out! And it's true, once you get passed her, everyone inside is laid back and friendly! |

Jon Hershkowitz, Summit Medical Group is great. Trina is not only half-dead in the emotional realm, she is also not the greatest diagnostician. And, antibiotics seem to be her idea of a cure-all. |

Try Associates in Primary Care in Millburn. Have seen Drs Pitoscia, Quaglia and Nalitt and have liked them all. Even got my husband to switch to them and that's a minor miracle! |

Dr. Nalitt is no longer with that group. It is a pretty well run office, and I have been largely satisfied. The nurse-practitioner there is wonderful. But I am switching to Nalitt's new practice, also in Millburn, which also accepts Oxford. |

I have an appointment with Dr. Mendola next week. Alice was gruff, as you described, but responsive, and made the effort to fit me in. Given that every other office I called (10+) had a message machine answering even during office hours, I am already thrilled with Dr. Mendola's. Speaking to a real person! What a concept! Thanks, all. |

After we stopped using Trina Frankel (I agree with the above comments wholeheartedly), we started using Dr. Qualter in Maplewood (his office is near Boyden School). He was recommended to us by friends and by several of the specialists my husband was seeing at the time. We have been pleased with him. |

Have just started with Dr. Susan Cantor (w/Summit Med Group now but going off alone soon). So far, so good. Attentive, personable, not antibiotic-crazy and shares an office with a Dr. Jeffrey Cantor (husband?) so families can have both genders. She's at 90 Millburn Ave. now (763 3720). Don't know about other plans, but she takes mine, United Healthcare. |

I also go to Dr. Susan Cantor. She's the best! Intuitive, caring, very smart and she listens. Glad to hear she's going off on her own soon. Any details on that Patty? Another doctor in her office is Jerry Cantor, not Jeffrey, and he's her father. I wouldn't use him... Summit Medical Group doesn't participate with Blue Cross/Blue Shield so I have to pay 30% of the bill but she's worth it. However, if she's going off on her own perhaps she will take BC/BS. |

Loyo65, I think she's continuing previous insurance relationships and she'll continue with mine (United Healthcare) but it's worth checking as to whether she would add others that SMG didn't participate in. Good luck. |
