Who can guide the average homeowner wishing to file an appeal with Essex County on their assessment?

I would pay money to attend a workshop by an attorney who could tell me how to prepare, what to bring, if I need a lawyer, etc.

This assumes I don't get a postcard from Mr. Galante telling me that I was correct in all my assertions that my home is over-assessed by 15%.

There is a booklet in the reference section of the Maplewood library that I found very helpful on county tax appeals - it cost about $5.00 to copy it on the Xerox machine. The title escapes me, something dry with "property tax" "appeals" and "New Jersey" in the title.

BTW, I received my review assessment today and nothing had changed, same assessment value. No explanation. This even though my house was overassessed on square footage by several hundred sq. ft. I documented, sent photos, wrote a detailed letter and my property card still has the same info that CVI misreported in September...I am frustrated.

See you at the county appeals court this spring. Good luck.
