We're going to see the Peking Acrobats at Kean University tonight and would like to find a good place in Union (preferably Morris Ave, close to Kean) to direct some out of area family members that we're meeting for dinner beforehand. Any suggestions? We like Hillary's in Springfield but would like something on the other side of Union, if possible. Thanks. (BTW, we went to China Light in Westfield for a Chinese New Year celebration recently, GREAT restaurant and very reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere, excellent service and terrific food.) Does anyone know of any great Dim Sum places around here? |

It's not near Union, but if you haven't tried it yet, go to Jin Jin in Millburn. Good food and service. Very good shrimp shu-mai, winter melon soup and ... well, I haven't had a bad dish yet. |

We went for Dim Sum at a place in the back of Essex Green Mall. Small little place. Excellent Dim Sum. |

Chinatown is on your doorstep! Just take Mid-town direct into NYC, shoot downtown on the subway and have the best dim sum on the Eastern seaboard. We do it with our three little kids on the weekend and it's painless. |

KMK- Do you have any favorite places? I'd be willing to venture to the big Apple for something as tasty like Dim Sum, if I knew where to go. |

What do people think of J & J's in Millburn? I think it's the one next to the West Coast video. I had the chicken and shrimp and it was delicious. |

Inside, I think JJ (Jin Jin) is one of the best around. Having lived in China (Bejing) for a year and a half, I'm pretty particular about my Chinese food (and my wife, as a native, even moreso) and Jin Jin is one of the few nearby that meets our standards. OTOH, we don't find the restaurants in Chinatown appealing. There is one (Dumpling House? Qingdao?) off of Mott that's pretty good though. |

Best dim sum in NYC - I think is Manderin Court on Mott Street. If you go on the weekends - the hours are 7:30am to 3pm. Go early if you can - the selection is better. But it's Chinatown. It has the communal tables - and the wait came be long. But the food is great and two people can stuff themselves silly for less than $20. Such a deal! |

China Garden in W.O on just north of Prospect on Eagle Rock does a great Dim Sum brunch on Sunday mornings. I think Saturday, too, but I've only been on Sunday. |
