Any reccommendations for mechanics to repair my Subaru. I've already tried the guys on Valley St.

Does that mean you did not like the guys on Valley? If so why. (I have a Subaru that has not needed fixing so far but its always good to know.)

My experience with MIke and Al on Valley street has always been very good; both when I owned 2 subarus and now with my Toyota and Nissan.

I have also had a good experience with Mike and Al. I have taken my car to them, and have also brought it to the Subaru dealer in Bloomfield. There have been car troubles that Mike and Al couldn't figure out (they don't have a lot of the high tech diagnostic stuff) and they were honest with me. I enjoy having a local place to bring my car, and more than once I drove in and they fixed a minor problem for me on the spot. I have also had a good experience at the Subaru place in Bloomfield, they are efficient, reasonable and very customer friendly.

You might try Nelson's Garage on Dunnellen Rd, opposite the park. Nice guy Dave, and we've always been very pleased with the work done on our cars (we don't have a Subaru but he's always done fine on other foreign cars).

For the last year and a half we've been getting our scheduled maintainence done at the Bloomfield Subaru and have been very happy with them. We haven't needed any major repairs yet, luckily.

Ashear: It's not that I don't like them, I just don't know if they are pulling the wool over my eyes regarding a certain problem I've been having.
I try to apply common sense to things like this and their answer on why the car was doing what it was doing just didn't make sense.

If the guys on Valley Street are the ones with the Subaru sign...? I went in there one time with my 96 Legacy for inquiring about a 60K mile maintenance. I couldn't get one guy's attention away from his cigarette, and when I asked for a rate sheet and a list of what is normally comprised in a 60K mile maintenance, he couldn't produce it. I felt like I was being railroaded -- particularly because they are NOT listed in the yellow pages as an authorized Subaru repair place.

I felt like turning them in to Subaru for hoisting that sign

Went to Bloomfield, where they were very nice, but it just happened that I was stuck in Bloomfield for the better part of 5 hours for the regular service, plus timing belt, plus unanticipated oil pump replacement.

Just had a bad experience with International Motors (Subaru sign) on Valley St. They were friendly enough but didn't give me an estimate (illegal), broke my radio in the process of fixing it, totally denied that it was their fault, charged me anyway, and just sent me back to the dealer (Hillside). Enough for me.
